  • Patent number: 5316169
Abstract: An especially configured, ringless, container-lid design is disclosed having improved sealing characteristics applicable to paint containers for the consuming public. The rim portion of the container is provided with a tapered, especially shaped wall section terminating in a curled bead which is received in a sealing groove in the lid. The container rim section is rigidized by a single protrusion in the form of a stiffening groove to prevent vertical collapse of the container. The lid has an inverted U-shaped groove sealingly engaging the container's bead. Extending from the inner wall segment of the U-shaped groove in the lid is a frusto conical wall segment extending radially-inwardly and vertically-upwardly to a flat, annular, radially-inwardly extending surface which in turn terminates in a downwardly-extruding frusto conical surface so that a raised collecting basin is formed in the lid.

  • Patent number: 5284419
Abstract: Propeller with twistable blades comprising a spar with ribs which can be rotated in opposite directions about the axis of the spar by an adjusting device. A coupling device in the propeller ensures that when two ribs are rotated in opposite directions by the adjusting device, the other ribs are adjusted accordingly. The coupling device consists of a rod substantially parallel to the spar and designed to be relatively bendable in the plane through the spar and the rod, and relatively resistant to bending in the plane perpendicular thereto. The rod couples at least three ribs together in such a way that it distorts when two ribs are rotated in opposite directions along a helix about the spar, causing subsequent ribs to move with it on this helix.

  • Patent number: 5279591
Abstract: A protector guard housing is disclosed for a catheter type needle apparatus to prevent accidental needle puncture. The guard housing is initially positioned between the hub of the catheter and the handle of the needle which slidably extends through the catheter in a known manner. A detent mechanism initially retains the forward end of the guard to the catheter hub while needle supports within the guard permits the needle to axially move relative to the guard. When the needle is withdrawn from the catheter after site puncture, a resilient closure wall formed in the protector closes the protector's forward end while the needle's cutting end is simultaneously wedged into contact with friction retention material in the protector. The needle's cutting end is thus encapsulated within the protector when the detent mechanism releases the protector from the catheter.

  • Patent number: 5278537
Abstract: An electronic alarm is disclosed for use in a moving vehicle which generates ultrasonic sound for preventing animals from moving into the path of the vehicle. The device includes a simplified driver circuit for generating electrical impulses in the form of square waves having constant peak-to-peak voltages. The driver generates the square waves with periodic, sequentially increasing wave frequencies followed by sequentially decreasing wave frequencies. A coupling transformer converts the square waves into electrical sine wave voltages having high peak-to-peak voltages to cause a piezo-electric transducer to emit intense, ultrasonic sounds of periodically increasing frequencies followed by periodically decreasing frequencies simulating the warble effect of a siren without excessive heating and premature failure of the transducer. The ultrasonic warble effect confuses the animal to prevent inadvertent movement by the animal into the oncoming vehicle's path without injury to the animal.

  • Patent number: 5277042
Abstract: A mechanical anti-theft device of the type applied to the steering wheel of an automotive vehicle which automatically ratchets to it's applied position without necessity of key lock actuation is provided with several security enhancing features which cumulatively prevent or make the device exceedingly difficult to unlock using conventional burglary tools or lock picking techniques. The features include configuring the ratchet teeth of the telescoping rod member in a way which minimizes any attempt to deactivate the lock unless the key is used. In combination with the ratchet teeth configuration, the lock pawl mechanism is configured to include an arcuate, transversely extending apex edge line or surface which cooperates with or is sized to be coincident with the rod members circumference to prevent a wedge, shim or pick from being readily easily inserted between pawl and ratchet tooth to force a retraction of the pawl.
