Patent number: 7882274Abstract: A computer system having a host computer and multiple terminals. The host computer (including any peripheral hubs or the like) has groups of at least three I/O ports (preferably USB ports) where the I/O ports of a single group are supposed to be used to connect I/O devices associated with a single terminal. When connecting up a new terminal, after a user connects two I/O devices into a group and affirmatively indicates, by user input, that these belong to the same terminal, then further devices subsequently connected into the same group of I/O ports will be automatically assigned to the terminal previously indicated by the user. Also, a computer system where multiple operating systems are respectively used to control multiple displays. A video output module creates a master frame display including display data for (at least) the displays of all of the operating systems. The master frame display is split into portions respectively corresponding to each operating system.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 2008Date of Patent: February 1, 2011Assignee: Virtual Desktop Technologies, Inc.Inventor: David A. Patent number: 7882188Abstract: The present invention discloses a method of message transmission performed in a server; a method of message transmission performed in a client; a symbol-based method for transmitting a message between a server and at least one client as well as a server; a client and a symbol-based message transmission system, wherein the symbol-based method of message transmission has: at least one client requesting the server to perform message transmission; the server transmitting symbols of the client's message to the client; and presenting the received message symbols on the client. The symbol-based method of message transmission saves a great deal of bandwidth of the communication channel by having the server only transmit symbols that represent the message after receiving a message transmission request from the client. This is done in order to efficiently transmit a message with a large body and/or attachment(s), thereby avoiding the risk of blocking the communication channel.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 2007Date of Patent: February 1, 2011Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Oliver K. Patent number: 7866437Abstract: A stethoscope with a figure-eight configuration designed for one-handed operation and further comprising improvement to the headpiece resonance chamber. The ear tubes of the stethoscope are roughly S-shaped and together form a figure eight design. The lower portion of each ear tube is connected by a resistant force mechanism that maintains the stethoscope in the closed configuration. By applying one-handed compressive force to the resistant force mechanism attached to the lower portion of the stethoscope's figure-eight construction, the earpieces are separated and the stethoscope adopts the open configuration. Both the headpiece and the diaphragm are interchangeable to allow a variety of different shapes and sizes.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2008Date of Patent: January 11, 2011Assignee: TGMDVM, Inc.Inventor: Thomas G. Patent number: 7865460Abstract: A method and system for migrating source data from one or more databases to a destination database, wherein the destination database is selected based on power consumption of the destination database. A data migration server determines which destination database should be selected by selecting a number of candidates and comparing the power consumed, the available space and the maximum monthly power consumption limit. A user intervention policy is created to evaluate which data should be moved to a destination database. A “payback period” is calculated to determine the amount of time that will elapse before savings are realized.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 2008Date of Patent: January 4, 2011Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Rick A. Patent number: 7842890Abstract: A one-piece housing for the enclosure and protection of an optical imager or other device and a method for locking a one-piece housing assembly in a folded configuration. The housing comprises three segments permanently joined by flexible hinges that allow the housing to quickly fold into a box to enclose an optical imager. To releasably maintain the housing in closed position, the assembly contains two locking tabs that snap-fit into depressions on a platform extending away from the main housing segment. One tab snap-fits directly into a depression on the top surface of the platform while the other tab snap-fits into a depression on the reverse surface of the platform. By locking into depressions on the top and reverse surfaces of the platform, the opposing tabs tightly grip the surfaces and releasably maintain the housing in the folded configuration.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 2008Date of Patent: November 30, 2010Assignee: Jadak, LLCInventors: Richard Burnham Jost, Harold Francis Rose, Jr.
