Abstract: The present invention is directed to an integrated circuit device that includes a primary signal synthesizer configured to generate a free-running first digital frequency signal and at least one secondary signal synthesizer disposed in parallel with the primary signal synthesizer and configured to generate a free-running at least one second digital frequency signal. A switch element includes a first switch input coupled to the primary signal synthesizer and at least one second switch input coupled to the at least one secondary signal synthesizer. The switch element is configured to select a switch output that provides either the free-running first digital frequency signal or the free-running at least one second digital frequency signal based on a switch control input.
Abstract: An optical barcode and/or RFID reader having at least two sets of illuminating LEDs that are directed toward a target object to reflect whether the barcode and/or RFID reading was successful or unsuccessful. The reader is provided with a set of red LEDs and a set of green LEDs for illuminating targets, such as barcodes or RFID tags. In addition to using these LEDs to illuminate the target, the reader will illuminate the target with a particular color of light to signify a successful read, such green light, or an unsuccessful read, such as red light. A third color may be provided to indicate a successful RFID interrogation, such as blue light. The reader thus uses the built-in illumination LEDs to cast differently colored light on the target, rather than having to provide additional LEDs in a user interface positioned on the housing of the reader.
Abstract: A c-axis-oriented HAP thin film synthesized by seeded growth on a palladium hydrogen membrane substrate. An exemplary synthetic process includes electrochemical seeding on the substrate, and secondary and tertiary hydrothermal treatments under conditions that favor growth along c-axes and a-axes in sequence. By adjusting corresponding synthetic conditions, an HAP this film can be grown to a controllable thickness with a dense coverage on the underlying substrate. The thin films have relatively high proton conductivity under hydrogen atmosphere and high temperature conditions. The c-axis oriented films may be integrated into fuel cells for application in the intermediate temperature range of 200-600° C. The electrochemical-hydrothermal deposition technique may be applied to create other oriented crystal materials having optimized properties, useful for separations and catalysis as well as electronic and electrochemical applications, electrochemical membrane reactors, and in chemical sensors.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of disaster recovery in data processing systems and to a recovery system. The invention allows for easy, fast and reliable recovery of a data processing system in a disaster situation. Unmodified backup data is stored to a target data processing system, the hardware of the target data processing system being different from the hardware of the source data processing system, from which the backup data originated. The stored backup data is then adapted to the hardware of the target data processing system by a remote recovery system using previously obtained reference data.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to an electrical wiring device that includes a housing assembly including a plurality of line terminals, a plurality of load terminals, and a plurality of receptacle load terminals. A circuit assembly includes at least one signal detection circuit and an interrupting contact assembly. The interrupting contact assembly includes four sets of interrupting contacts being at least partially disposed on four cantilevered members. The four cantilevered members include a first set of two cantilevered members and a second set of two cantilevered members. The first set of cantilevered members is configured to rotate around a first axis in a first direction and the second set of cantilevered members being configured to rotate around a second axis in a second direction opposite to the first direction.

Abstract: A comprehensive fuel additive for gasoline, diesel and ultra low sulfur diesel fuels intended to improve engine combustion efficiency, improve diesel fuel cetane levels, improve diesel and ultra low sulfur diesel fuel lubricity, reduce engine component friction, reduce engine deposit buildup, reduce gasoline and diesel fuel bio-contamination and reduce pollutant exhaust emissions produced by gasoline and diesel fuel powered internal combustion engines. The present invention further provides a fuel additive that does not increase the sulfur level of diesel fuel beyond 15 ppm.
Abstract: A method of measuring the state of flow above an airfoil using an estimation of the velocity field based on a combination of Particle Image Velocimetry PIV and multiple surface pressure measurements processed through a POD/mLSE algorithm. Integral to the POD/mLSE algorithm is the estimation of the global POD coefficients. The utility of these time dependent coefficients, which are estimated from surface pressure only, are demonstrated in a simple proportional feedback loop (as the time series to drive the actuators) to keep the flow attached. This method requires realistic feedback flow control since surface measurements and not inflow measurements are required for practical applications. The estimation method works well with dynamic strain on flexible bodies and is not limited to estimation from pressure only.
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for automatically refining ontology within a specific context. The system comprises: a rich context extractor for discovering a semantics relationship conflict existing between an original ontology schema and application data; and an ontology schema and mapping refiner for refining the original ontology schema based on the semantics relationship conflict discovered by the rich context extractor, and creating a new mapping between the refined ontology schema and a data schema of the application data. According to the invention, users can save a lot of work of manual refinement, since the ontology schema is automatically refined based on contexts in the application data.

Abstract: A semiconductor device including at least one gate terminal in operational contact with an active layer or top surface of the semiconductor substrate includes a deposited layer of boron phosphide covering the gate terminal and at least a portion of the active layer or the top surface next to and extending from the gate terminal. According to an aspect, the layer of boron phosphide is deposited by a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process. The boron phosphide layer will have a thickness less than or equal to about 10 microns. The boron phosphide provides a heat spreading coating across the die surface, thus increasing the surface area that conducts the heat from the die. Since the boron phosphide coating is in intimate contact with the gate terminal(s) and the immediately adjacent passivation surfaces of the device, generated heat can rapidly spread away from the active junction or channel.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a protective device that includes a housing having a plurality of line terminals, a plurality of load terminals, and a plurality of user-accessible terminals accessible via apertures disposed in a front major surface of the housing. A fault detection assembly is coupled to the plurality of line terminals, the fault detection circuit being configured to provide a fault detection output in response to detecting a fault condition. A circuit interrupter is coupled to the fault detection assembly. Abstract: A method and apparatus for the production of compacted powder elements. More specifically, the improvement of tooling for powder compaction equipment, and the processes for making such tooling. The improvement comprises the use of a ceramic tip or similar component in high wear areas of the tooling, particularly center pins. Moreover, the use of such ceramic components enables reworking and replacement of the worn tool components.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an electrical wiring device that includes a front cover member and a back cover member substantially in parallel with the front cover member. The housing further includes an electrically isolating member disposed between the front cover member and the back cover member such that a front interior region is formed and a rear interior region is formed. A protective electrical assembly includes a sensor assembly coupled to a plurality of line terminals and a solenoid assembly coupled to an interrupting contact assembly. The sensor assembly and the solenoid assembly are substantially disposed in a first rear interior region portion. The sensor assembly includes at least one toroidal transformer having a toroidal axis and the solenoid assembly including a solenoid coil having a solenoid coil axis. The toroidal axis and the solenoid coil axis are substantially parallel to one another.

Abstract: A system and method for using gradient nanotopography to increase mammalian cell attachment and cell confinement on surfaces. A surface platform consisting of a thin film of gold possessing a gradient of topography on the surface and self-assembled monolayers of alkanethiols presenting desired functional groups is formed. A gradient in the chemical properties is induced in the terminal groups of the monolayer because of the continuous increase in the surface area and the anisotropy of gold film structure. The gradient nanotopraphy provides simultaneous control of two key properties, the presentation of the terminal functional groups and a continuous increase in the surface density of functional groups on the surface. This control provides for drug screening assays using adherent cell-based experiments.
