  • Patent number: 8305738
Abstract: A power transfer device adapted for interconnection with the electrical system of a building includes a cabinet, a set of switches mounted to an upper panel of the cabinet, and wires adapted to connect the switches to an electrical distribution panel associated with a building electrical system. The power transfer device includes an upper compartment and a lower compartment partitioned from one another by an intermediate wall. The upper panel closes the upper compartment and a lower panel is adapted to selectively close the lower compartment. A strain relief member is mounted in the lower compartment and tightly holds the wires against the housing to prevent the unintentional disconnection of the wires from the switches.

  • Patent number: 8296875
Abstract: A lavatory system is disclosed to include one or more integrated hand washing stations. Each hand washing station includes a basin, a faucet, a solenoid valve configured to control water flow to the faucet, and a electric hand dryer located adjacent the basin and the faucet so that the user of the washing station may use the faucet and the electric hand dryer without leaving the washing station. The electric hand dryer preferably includes an outlet to direct air across the associated basin so that any water that drips from the user's hands will fall within the basin. A control system may be provided to control activation of the fixtures such as the solenoid valve, the electric hand dryer, and/or soap dispenser. The control system may be configured, for example, to inhibit simultaneous activation of the solenoid valve and the hand dryer. A photovoltaic system may be provided to provide power to one or more of electrical fixtures.

  • Patent number: 8294431
Abstract: A method of controlling an engine-driven, electrical generator is provided. The generator generates an output voltage at a frequency with the engine running at an operating speed. The method includes the steps of connecting the generator to a load and varying the operating speed of the engine to optimize fuel consumption in response to the load. Thereafter, the frequency of the output voltage is modified to a predetermined level.

  • Patent number: 8292139
Abstract: A pannier mounting system includes a pair of hooks that are positioned at generally opposite ends of a handle and secure a pannier to a bicycle. A latch and a stop cooperate with each hook to snuggly enclose a rail in a manner that is generally independent of the cross-sectional size/shape of the rail. The latch is connected to the hook by a pivot and extends outward generally under the hook. The stop is pivotably and slidably connected to the hook and cooperates with the hook to generally fix a position of the latch. Translation of the handle toward the hooks closes and locks the latch about a rail member and translation of the handle away from the hooks unlocks the latch so that the mounting system can be removed from a rail.

  • Patent number: 8294457
Abstract: A rotary magnetic encoder assembly that has a freewheeling rotatable exciter magnet onboard that excites a magnetic field sensor region of an encoder chip when magnetic interaction between the exciter magnet and rotating encoder shaft causes the exciter magnet to rotate. In one embodiment, a drive magnet carried by the shaft magnetically couples with the exciter magnet because the medium therebetween has low magnetic permeability enabling rotation substantially in unison with the shaft. The exciter magnet is disposed in an onboard retainer pocket that accurately locates the magnet relative to the sensor region of the encoder chip. In one preferred embodiment, the exciter magnet retainer pocket is disposed onboard the encoder chip, such as by being formed as part of the package body of the chip that can be integrally formed or as part of a module that is mountable on the chip.

  • Patent number: 8286940
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an injection molding valve configured to prevent the leaking or stringing of injected thermoplastic from the valve. The valve includes a housing having a first bore along a length thereof and a second bore intersecting the first bore. A rotatable member is inserted through the second bore and is in communication with a lever for the actuation thereof. The rotatable member includes a hole therethrough such that when the hole is aligned with the first bore, thermoplastic may travel freely through the first bore. The second bore further includes at least one groove in communication with a port for receiving injected thermoplastic. The injected thermoplastic is hardened to form an seal therein and configured to prevent thermoplastic from leaking out of the valve housing.

  • Patent number: 8286902
Abstract: A grinding machine has a shearing chamber that includes one or more edges that provide fulcrum points against which frozen block of material, such as frozen blocks of meat, can be held against during a reduction or shearing process. The edges may be arranged to limit the advancement of reduced blocks of material to provide more control on the size of the ground material that is ultimately output by the grinding machine. The grinding machine may also include an expansion zone into which reduced blocks can be temporarily held to accommodate volume increases during the reduction process. A feed screw advances the frozen blocks through the shearing chamber and includes pressure fighting to help shear material from the frozen blocks. The feed screw may include a knife holder that provides support for a knife held therein against the lateral forces experienced by the knife as the knife shears material adjacent the orifice plate.

  • Patent number: 8286324
Abstract: The invention relates to a blind rivet and a device for placing the blind rivet. The blind rivet contains a rivet head with a collar at one end and a rivet tip at the other. The rivet body contains a cavity in the form of a bore in a sleeve section. As with other blind rivets, the blind rivet is inserted into an opening in two sheets that are to be joined together, until the collar comes to rest on the upper face of the upper sheet. In a second step, the part of the rivet body or the rivet head that lies on the rear face of the two sheets is deformed with the aid of a hammer or expanding body, which is advanced with a percussive-type action in the same direction. A device for placing a rivet of this type contains a part that can be pushed forwards with a percussive-type action, this part consisting of a hammer for exerting pressure on the expansion body.
