  • Patent number: 8191332
Abstract: A reinforcement system made of steel members, (e.g., steel reinforcing rods, threaded rods or functionally equivalent steel members), closely positioned with respect to, or positioned in contact with, the exterior of straight, tapered, and/or pipe/stepped poles, such as wireless telecommunication poles. The method of use results in providing additional strength to the poles to enhance resistance against deflection caused by, for instance, wind forces and/or added weight resulting from mounting antennas thereto, enabling the placement of, for instance, more antenna arrays and other communication antennas thereon than is otherwise possible.

  • Patent number: 8185764
Abstract: A power delivery technique which involves connecting power sourcing equipment (PSE) with a powered device (PD) through data communications cabling (e.g., an Ethernet cable). The technique further involves negotiating an acceptable power level for the PD and a data rate for the PD, and enforcing delivery of power to the PD using only wire pairs of the data communications cabling which carry data between the PSE and the PD. As a result, the PSE does not deliver any power to the PD through wire pairs which are not data-active.

  • Patent number: 8148988
Abstract: A magnet arrangement includes (a) a first and a second head ring magnet each having a substantially circular geometry with respect to a center axis and (b) a central ring magnet having a substantially circular geometry with respect to a center axis. The central ring magnet is disposed between the first and second head ring magnet in direction of the center axis. At least one of the magnets includes a first number of first magnets having at least one trapezoidal cross section and a second number of second magnets having at least one rectangular cross section. The second magnets are disposed in between the first magnets in circumferential direction. With this geometrical arrangement, magnets having a trapezoidal cross section include a guidance for a magnet having a rectangular cross section allowing the movements in radial direction of these last magnets.

  • Patent number: 8151021
Abstract: A technique for upgrading software running on a cluster of computerized nodes. The technique involves running a first version of the software on each node of the cluster. The technique further involves installing a second version of the software on each node in place of the first version of the software during an installation period and after running the first version of the software on each node. The second version of the software installed on each node includes a first version side and a second version side. At least one node of the cluster runs (i) the first version of the software or (ii) the first version side of the second version of the software at all times during the installation period. The technique further involves running the second version side of the second version of the software on each node of the cluster after the installation period.

  • Patent number: 7883475
Abstract: A manipulator is configured with three or more substantially concentric, elongate members configured such that relative rotation and translation of the elongate members adjusts both the spatial position and orientation of the distal end of the manipulator and the spatial positioning of the manipulator along its length. In one arrangement, the elongate members are pre-curved such that the distal end portions of the elongate members have generally arcuate shapes in a resting state. When the three elongate members are combined in a substantially concentric manner, the overall shape of the manipulator is a composite of the individual elongate member shapes. Varying the relative translation and rotational orientation of the component elongate members achieves a family of resulting manipulator shapes as well as a desired spatial position and orientation of the distal end portion of the manipulator.

  • Patent number: 7447833
Abstract: An improved data storage system has a set of storage devices, a first storage processor and a second storage processor for storing data into and retrieving data from the set of storage devices. The first storage processor includes a processing circuit and a packaged IC device which has a first set of ports and a second set of ports. The processing circuit is adapted to configure the packaged IC device to provide (i) communications to the set of storage devices through the first set of ports and (ii) other communications to the second storage processor through the second set of ports. The processing circuit is further adapted to pass communications between the first storage processor and the set of storage devices through the first set of ports; and pass communications between the first storage processor and the second storage processor through the second set of ports.
