  • Patent number: 7894136
Abstract: A method for creating a periodic interference pattern of coherent waves in two or three dimensions, D, includes generating at least D+2 waves, where each wave has substantially the same wavelength, ?, and travels substantially in a unique direction, kn. The waves are directed such that at least a portion of each wave intersects in a common excitation region to create the interface pattern. The directions, kn, of the waves are selected such that the interference pattern within the excitation region forms a Bravais lattice, and at least one wave travels substantially in a direction, ki, such that one or more symmetry operations characteristic of the Bravais lattice map the direction of the wave, ki, onto a direction of a different wave, kj. The directions of the waves, kn, do not all lie on a D-dimensional set of mutually orthogonal axes.

  • Patent number: 7890568
Abstract: Systems and methods allow service-to-device mapping using genetic algorithm logic by which services are mapped onto best-suited smart items selected from a plurality of smart items of a sensor network. As part of the mapping, and/or subsequent thereto, a deployment of the service(s) onto the smart items is initiated. A sorted repair structure indicating an ordering of services in accordance with a hierarchy of atomic services and composite services based on a composition of services for one or more devices of a sensor network is determined. One or more derived generation structures are determined based on genetic algorithm logic that is operable on the sorted repair structure. A service is mapped onto at least one device of the sensor network, based on one of the derived generation structures. As a result, users may achieve a desired result in a fast, convenient, and reliable manner, even when executing the deployment remotely or automatically.

  • Patent number: 7873422
Abstract: A process model specified using, for example, UML activity diagrams can be translated into an event-based model that can be executed on top of a coordination middleware. For example, a process model may be encoded as a collection of coordinating objects that interact with each other through a coordination middleware including a shared memory space. This approach is suitable for undertaking post-deployment adaptation of process-oriented composite applications. In particular, new control dependencies can be encoded by dropping new (or enabling existing) coordinating objects into the space and/or disabling existing ones.
