  • Patent number: 5123115
Abstract: A surgeon's headpiece (10) comprises a cap (12) having an elongated, flexible, eyeglass retainer member (14) attached at an interior surface (24) of a front portion (18) thereof with an outer, distal, end portion (32) for looping about a nose bridge (52) of eyeglasses (50) and doubling back on itself and being fastened to itself. The cap is slit at the front portion with the eyeglass retainer member being attached to the cap on opposite sides of the slit (20) in the interior of the cap so that a top surface (34) of the eyeglass retainer is exposed at an exterior (36) of the cap, with the distal end portion of the eyeglass retainer being brought into contact with, and fastened to, the top surface exposed through the slit. A proximal end portion (30) of the eyeglass retainer member has a greater width than the distal end portion.

  • Patent number: 5058341
Abstract: A method of constructing a fire-stop collar assembly involves the steps of choosing a dummy pipe (14) at a factory which is an approximate size and shape of a pipe at an installment site on which a fire-stop collar assembly (10,54) produced by this method is to be mounted and, at the factory, wrapping an intumescent collar (34,82) into an approximate ring about an outer surface of the dummy pipe. Also, at the factor, a metallic band (32) is wrapped about the intumescent collar while the collar is wrapped about the dummy pipe and the end portions (36,38) are held together by a fastening device (40,56) while the collar is wrapped about the dummy pipe. Still at the factory, the dummy pipe is removed from the intumescent collar and the metallic band by longitudinal movement along the dummy pipe, thereby leaving rings of intumescent collar and the metallic band held together as an integral fire-stop collar assembly.

  • Patent number: 5056457
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for carrying out a varnish impregnation method wherein a sheet-like base material is sequentially passed through a low-viscosity liquid storage region storing a low-viscosity liquid such as a solvent, a thermal syphon region, and a varnish storage region storing a varnish, the thermal syphon region being positioned between the low-viscosity liquid storage region and varnish storage region and communicating with both regions at air tight seals closed by liquid surfaces, and heating the base material in the thermal syphon region to vaporize the low-viscosity liquid impregnated in the base material. When the base material passes through the low-viscosity liquid, air contained in the base material is replaced with the low-viscosity liquid and discharged outside the apparatus. The low-viscosity liquid impregnated in the material is vaporized in the thermal syphon region.

  • Patent number: 5020463
Abstract: An adjustable davit arrangement is attachable to a pair of pier pilings for raising or lowering a vessel and comprises a first davit mounted on a first pier piling, a second davit mounted on a second pier piling, a rotatable drive pipe extending between respective distal ends of the first and second davits, pick-up flanges disposed near respective ends of the rotatable drive pipe for raising or lowering the vessel via respective cables as the drive pipe is rotated, and a winch motor mounted in proximity to one of the davits and operating with a gear reducing drive drum mounted on the drive pipe so as to cause the drive pipe to rotate, thereby raising or lowering the vessel. Simplicity in assembly and operation, and economy, are achieved by use of a single winch motor.

  • Patent number: 5001005
Abstract: A structural laminate comprises at least one planar facing sheet comprised largely of glass fibers but not having micro-glass as a filler. The facing sheet is self adhered to a rigid thermosetting plastic foam core. The non-glass filler material is chosen from a group consisting of clay, mica, talc, limestone (calcium carbonate), gypsum (calcium sulfate), aluminum trihydrate (ATH), antimony oxide, cellulose fibers, and plastic polymer fibers. The non-glass filler material improves containment of liquid plastic thermosetting polymer, and offers economic and safety advantages.

  • Patent number: 4971451
Abstract: A heat-generating element and a fluid temperature measuring element are immersed in a molten or gelled fluid sample to measure continuously both temperature .SIGMA.w of the said heat-generating element and fluid temperature .THETA..infin. during the cooling or heating of the fluid sample at one or several constant cooling or heating rates. An abrupt change in .THETA.w-.THETA..infin. value is detected to obtain the practical gel-point temperature of a characteristic gel-point temperature, which is defined as the extrapolated gel-point temperature at a cooling or heating rate of zero.
