  • Patent number: 6095826
Abstract: A right angle press fit connector employs a modular construction having a common terminal carrying press block that is associable with different types of shroud structures. The press block may include true positioned location structures for press fit tails. The true position structures may be integral with the press block. A cruciform shaped terminal insertion passage in the press block minimizes damage to the plating of the terminals and provides structural stiffness.

  • Patent number: 6095827
Abstract: An upper and lower contact especially for a double-deck or dual in-line module, each includes a solder tail that is coupled to the main body of the contact by a compliant portion. The compliant portion is thus intermediate the main body and the solder portion of the solder tail. The compliant portion isolates and absorbs stresses induced on the module housing through card insertion such that the solder joint does not receive the stress. Additionally, the provision of a compliant portion absorbs non-linearities created by circuit board warpage on which the module is attached. The compliant portion may take the form of a modified spring, a U-shaped section, a radiused section, or other form.

  • Patent number: 6095837
Abstract: A receptacle adapted to be mounted on a printed wiring board (PWB) which includes an insulative member supporting a plurality of conductive contacts which conductive contacts engage the PWB and a conductive sheet having a lower wall superimposed on said PWB. An upper wall is superimposed over the insulative member in spaced relation over the lower wall and a pair of side walls perpendicularly interposed between said upper and lower walls to form a plug receiving space. A conductive sensor is positioned adjacent one of said conductive contacts and which contacts one of the conductive contacts when a plug is inserted in the plug receiving space. In an alternate embodiment a convex projection on the plug presses the power contact against the sensor.

  • Patent number: 6093035
Abstract: Electrical connectors capable of being mounted on circuit substrates by BGA techniques are disclosed. Also disclosed is a method for manufacturing such connectors. There is at least one recess on the exterior side of the connector elements. A conductive contact extends from adjacent the interior side of the into the recess on the exterior side of the housing. A controlled volume of solder paste is introduced into the recess. A fusible conductive element, in the form of solder balls is positioned in the recess. The connector is subjected to a reflow process to fuse the solder ball to the portion of the contact extending into said recess. Contacts are secured in the insulative housing of the connector by deformable sections that minimize stress imposed on the housing, thereby reducing warpage. Solder resist areas are formed on central portions of the contacts to promote uniformity of solder volume.

As a result of these features, substantial coplanarity of the BGA array along the mounting interface of the connector is achieved.

  • Patent number: 6071141
Abstract: Electrical connectors having latches for holding the connectors in mated condition employ relatively long latch arms with a point of flexure near a rear end of the connector. The latches extend into locating posts positioned forwardly of the mating face of the connector. If multiple latch arms are used, they are interconnected by a commonly actuated cross bar. Latch arms may be formed by integrally molding the arms with covers of the connectors. Effective latching properties and a long life are achieved with such latch structures. Manufacturing costs may be reduced by integrally molding latches with covers of the connector.

  • Patent number: 6068520
Abstract: A stacked modular jack connector having low cross talk and low combined stack height is disclosed. Low stack height is achieved by disposing contact terminals for stacked pairs of receptacles in a single coplanar array of interleaved terminals. The arrays are located between the receptacles. One receptacle of each pair is laterally offset from the other. For Ethernet applications, cross talk is minimized by arranging first, second, third and sixth terminals of a ten terminal array into a contact group of the first receptacle and fifth, eighth, ninth and tenth terminals of the array into a contact group of the second receptacle. Circuit board space requirements are minimized by arranging the terminal tails of both groups of terminals in a single line.
