Abstract: The present invention provides a molded shield for use as a protector for a roll. The shield comprises a first section for insertion into an end of the roll, the first section having a degree of curvature approximating that of an inside surface of the roll; and a second section integral with the first section and substantially perpendicular thereto, the second section to abut the end of the roll into which the first section is inserted. A method and an apparatus for forming a roll protector shield is also provided. Preferable, the shield is formed from ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene.
