Patent number: 6864093Abstract: Prostasin protein has been found to be a useful marker for determination of the invasiveness of and as a means to treat human carcinomas. Using RT-PCR and western blot analyses, prostasin protein and mRNA expression were found in normal human prostate epithelial cells and the human prostate cancer cell line LNCaP, but not in the highly invasive human prostate cancer cell lines DU-145 and PC-3. Imunohistochemistry studies of human prostate cancer specimens revealed a down-regulation of prostasin in high-grade tumors. Using RT-PCR and western blot analyses, prostasin protein and mRNA expression were found in a non-invasive human breast cancer cell line, MCF-7, while invasive human breast cancer cell lines MDA-MB-231 and MDA-MB-435s were found not to express either the prostasin protein or the mRNA. A non-invasive human breast cancer cell line, MDA-MB-453, was shown to express prostasin mRNA but not prostasin protein.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 2002Date of Patent: March 8, 2005Assignee: University of Central FloridaInventors: Karl X. Patent number: 6819575Abstract: Power Factor Correction (PFC) “flyboost” cell, with a transformer having primary winding connected to input power and secondary winding connected to output rectifier, which has both functions of a flyback transformer and boost inductor. Combining the flyboost cell with DC/DC conversion cells, forms a single-stage PFC converters. Both cells share one main switch and one controller. Letting the flyboost cell operate at Discontinuous Conduction Mode, requires a simple control for high power factor. Through flyboost cell, part of output power is processed once by main switch, and is referred to as direct power transfer (DPT), which will significantly improve efficiency. The flyboost cell will automatically limit the DC bus voltage through flyboost transformer turn ratio. The converters are suitable for universal voltage applications.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2002Date of Patent: November 16, 2004Assignee: University of Central FloridaInventors: Issa Batarseh, Peter Kornetzky, Shiguo Luo, Weihong Qiu

Patent number: 6791088Abstract: A leak detector using an infrared emitter and pyroelectric sensor to form an instrument for identifying the presence and concentration of a selected material type gas compound, such as a refrigerant gas compound within a given sample, such as a sample of ambient air. For the detection, a radiation flux coming from an infrared emitter penetrates the sample, which is analyzed spectrally, and results in a wave length-specific signal being generated at the output of the detector. By controlling the type of optical filter, the radiation energy is controlled at a selected wavelength, to ensure coverage of all selected compounds. For refrigerants, the selected wavelength can be between approximately 8 to approximately 10 microns in the wavelength range. This selected wavelength obscures other signals, thus minimizing false alarms. By not chopping or pulsing the emitter, the leak detector has a faster response time with no adverse impacts on the accuracy of the compound material being detected.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2002Date of Patent: September 14, 2004Assignee: Twin Rivers Engineering, Inc.Inventors: William J. Williams, II, Glenn A. Dejong

Patent number: 6789629Abstract: A mobile trailer having an easily raisable and lowerable ground engaging scraper/leveler planar type plate that a single user can raise and lower by a lever arm. Various spring type members allow for the plate to be easily moved upward and downward, and the plate can be locked in a raised position. The trailer can be easily towed behind small tractors and all terrain vehicles(ATVs). Another embodiment allows the plate to be easily raised and lowered by a single arm having one end pivotally attached t a support frame on the mobile trailer. The arm can be slid into side catches so that the plate is at selected heights as needed. Another embodiment allows for a barrel to be pivotally attached to the frame so that raising and lowering the arm allows for a filled barrel to be turned upside down discharging any contents in the barrel.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 2003Date of Patent: September 14, 2004Inventor: Leland W.
