  • Patent number: 6315488
Abstract: A coupling device for connecting a handle part and a tool part includes a plug and a socket. The plug has a main portion, an end portion, and a notched portion between the main portion and the end portion. The socket has a proximal base end, a body portion, and a locking member. The body portion extends from the base end and has an axial, plug receiving bore that opens through a distal end of the body portion. The locking member is positioned between the base end and the plug receiving bore. The locking member includes a leaf spring cantilevered axially on one side of the body portion of the socket. The leaf spring supports a latch bar that engages the notched portion of the plug when the plug is inserted through the open end of the plug receiving bore. The latch bar is spaced from the leaf spring so that the end portion of the plug passes between the latch bar and the leaf spring when the plug is inserted through the open end of the plug receiving bore.

  • Patent number: 6306171
Abstract: A total elbow arthroplasty system, incorporating a humeral component, a radial component and a ball component, may be used as a total elbow replacement in the canine, as well as in other species. The implant of the present invention has an isometric humeral component and an isometric radial component. An isometric ball component having an isometric articular surface is mounted on the radial component. The humeral and radial components have stems for mounting in the medullary canals of the respective bones, which are angled so as to approximate the configuration of the original humerus and radius. The components work together to form a nonconstrained ball and socket joint. The invention is also directed to methods for implanting the novel endoprosthesis of the present invention in a canine elbow joint. The apparatus and methods of the present invention are useful in the treatment of elbow osteoarthritis in canines, as well as in other species, including other quadrupeds and humans.

  • Patent number: 6291544
Abstract: The present invention provides pure, storage stable, reactive esters of 2-cyanopenta-2,4-dienoic acid and the adhesives and polymers thereof. The monomers of the present invention have the formula: where R is alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkoxyalkyl, alkenyloxyalkyl, alkynyloxyalkyl, poly(oxyalkyl), aryl, cycloalkyl or a heterocyclyc radical. R may also be one of the foregoing moieties substituted with one or more of the other moieties; this includes the case of the substituent itself being substituted, and may also contain halogens. The reactive monomers of the present invention can be formulated into adhesives by incorporating certain modifiers and additives such as polymeric thickeners, viscocity regulators, plasticizers, thixotrophic agents, compatibilizers, adhesion promoters, pigments and colorants, fillers, deodorants and perfumes. They can also be used in composition with other monomers containing a reactive double bond such as for example cyanoacrylates.

  • Patent number: 6277418
Abstract: Novel compositions extracted from corn products provide contraceptive and anti-neoplastic activities. Using novel extraction procedures, compositions may be isolated from corn products. For example, a Zea mays plant product is extracted in a first solvent to produce a solvent extract, the solvent extract is dried to produce an extracted solid, the extracted solid is solubilized in a second solvent, the solubilized extract is purified in a chromatographic process, and an active fraction is collected from the chromatographic process. Compositions may be applied to animal bedding or food, and are adaptable to any suitable method of administration. The contraceptive activity of these compositions is effective for both males and females.

  • Patent number: 6263365
Abstract: A pilot computer can control the Web browser of at least one passenger computer. The user of the passenger computer is instructed to log onto a control site, which downloads an active control, such as an applet, to the passenger computer. An active control is also provided to the pilot computer. If the pilot computer desires to present a particular Web page to both the pilot computer and the passenger computer for, e.g., discussing the page during a conference call, the pilot computer transmits the appropriate URL to the control site, which then retrieves the Web page. Next, the control site sanitizes the page by disabling its hyperlinks, and then the control site causes the passenger computer's active control to download the sanitized page. Also, the control site filters the page such that the hyperlinks are not disabled, but are rather encoded to point back to the control site, and this filtered page is downloaded to the pilot computer.
