  • Patent number: 7192810
Abstract: An electronic component and a method for making an electronic component are disclosed. The electronic component has a silicon package. The silicon package has a recess formed thereon in which a conductive region is placed. A bare die electronic device is disposed in the recess. The device has a top, a bottom, sides and a plurality of terminals, including a non-top terminal. The non-top terminal is electrically coupled to the conductive region. The electronic component is constructed by first creating a recess in a silicon wafer to a depth substantially equal to the first dimension of the bare die electronic device. A conductive material is applied to the recess. The electronic device is inserted into the recess so that the bottom terminal is coupled to the conductive material. A dielectric or other planarizing material is applied into the recess. Top and bottom contacts are then applied to form the electronic component so that it may be used as a ball grid array package.

  • Patent number: 7190295
Abstract: A system and method for adaptive sigma-delta modulation. The system includes a input stage that produces a difference signal representing the difference between an analog input signal x(n) and a analog feedback signal z(n), the amplitude of the analog input signal x(n) within a first range [?a, +a]. An accumulator stage produces a accumulated signal that is a function of an accumulation of the difference signal, the accumulator stage transforming the accumulation of the difference signal so as to increase average magnitude while ensuring instantaneous magnitude does not exceed a predetermined value. A quantization stage produces a quantized digital signal y0(n) representing the accumulated signal. Based on the quantized digital signal y0(n), a adaptation stage produces a digital output signal z0(n), which is converted to the analog feedback signal z(n) by a digital-to-analog converter stage.

  • Patent number: 7182166
Abstract: A wheelchair with a footrest that tucks as a power base on which the wheelchair seat is mounted rotates about an axis parallel to a surface. The rotation of the power base raises the height of the seat above the surface. The footrest, which is coupled to the support, tucks towards the power base and still avoids obstacles on the surface. The footrest tuck improves the maneuverability of the wheelchair by reducing the radius about which the footrest swings as the wheelchair turns.

  • Patent number: 7172075
Abstract: A defect free semipermeable composite membrane having outstanding integrity and high water permeability is provided. Said composite membrane comprises an inside support layer to provide sufficient mechanical strength, an outside barrier layer to provide selective separation and a middle layer to provide both chemical and physical binding between the support and the barrier layer. Two different methods for making said defect free composite membrane are discovered. These methods have been successfully used to produce high quality coatings and defect free composite membranes, which are independent of chemical composition and physical structure of said support. In the present invention, the ultrasonic sonication is utilized to speed up the phase inversion process of a membrane casting solution, and to produce a composite membrane at a speed higher than that disclosed in the prior art.

  • Patent number: 7169111
Abstract: Multi-channel blind system identification is utilized to identify a patient's cardiac functions without catheterization. The approach is adaptive to each patient's cardiovascular system variations. The cardiac functions can be determined by formulating an auto-regression moving average model utilizing either finite impulse response systems or a group of infinite impulse response systems. Both of these models identify the system functions by solving a set of linear equations using the least-squares method. The system input is then identified by deconvolving the system output and the estimated impulse response of each channel. These models can be augmented to obtain an estimate of the maximum order of the cardiac functions when they are unknown a priori. The approach can also be modified to obtain the cardiac functions by first resolving the distinct dynamics associated with each channel, then determining the common dynamics and ultimately determining the system input.

Abstract: A defect free semipermeable composite membrane having excellent integrity and high water permeability is provided. Said composite membrane comprises an inside support layer to provide sufficient mechanical strength; an outside barrier layer to provide selective separation; and a middle layer to provide both chemical and physical binding between said support and said barrier layer to bond them together. Three different methods for making said defect free composite membrane are discovered. These methods have been successfully utilized to produce high quality coatings and defect free composite membranes, which are independent of chemical composition and physical structure of said support. In the present invention, ultrasonic sonication is discovered to be effective to speed up the phase inversion process of a membrane casting solution, thus allows produce a composite membrane at a speed higher than those disclosed in the prior art.

  • Patent number: 7166911
Abstract: A MEMS inertial sensor is secured within a premolded-type package formed, at least in part, from a low moisture permeable molding material. Consequently, such a motion detector should be capable of being produced more economically than those using ceramic packages. To those ends, the package has at least one wall (having a low moisture permeability) extending from a leadframe to form a cavity, and an isolator (with a top surface) within the cavity. The MEMS inertial sensor has a movable structure suspended above a substrate having a bottom surface. The substrate bottom surface is secured to the isolator top surface at a contact area. In illustrative embodiments, the contact area is less than the surface area of the bottom surface of the substrate. Accordingly, the isolator forms a space between at least a portion of the bottom substrate surface and the package. This space thus is free of the isolator.
