  • Patent number: 5511110
Abstract: A cellular phone paging system that uses a frame oriented scheme to transmit and receive mobile unit pages with reduced delay is disclosed. Each mobile unit in the cellular phone network is assigned a paging slot within the frames on the forward control channel. If a plurality of pages are to be sent along the forward control channel and the pages are assigned to the same paging slot, the pages will be transmitted in successive paging slots beginning with the assigned slot rather than in the assigned slot in a series of sequential frames. In order to receive its pages, a mobile unit inspects its assigned paging slot and the next sequential paging slots if its assigned paging slot has been filled with a page request to another unit. The mobile unit continues to check sequential paging slots until it identifies a page to itself or identifies an empty slot.

  • Patent number: 5450317
Abstract: An improved logistics planning method and system for recommending optimal order quantities and timing, choice of vendor locations and storage locations, and transportation modes, for individual items and for product families. The system is designed for use in cooperation with the computer having memory and incorporates item, customer, supplier, and routing information databases. In operation, the item, customer and supplier databases are accessed in order to provide customer and warehouse demand forecasts. The routing and customer databases are similarly accessed to provide transportation cost forecasts necessary to determine optimized routing modes for selected items, customers and suppliers. The demand and transportation costs are processed in accordance with a dynamic programming model to determine stock and non-stock order/shipment solutions for the selected items and customers, including optimized supplier and routing selection, order timing and quantity.

  • Patent number: 5440623
Abstract: A telephone routing system for use with a programmable central office switch and a voice messaging system, wherein the programmable central office switch is of the type that provides prioritized features such as queuing, call forward busy line and call forward don't answer to the voice messaging system. The telephone routing system comprises a hunt group having one or more incoming telephone lines each having an individual hunt group telephone number associated with it. Each of the individual hunt group telephone numbers has a call forward busy line and call forward don't answer to the voice messaging system feature enabled but does not have a queuing feature enabled. A hunt group directory number is associated with the entire hunt group and has queuing, call forward busy line, and call forward don't answer to the voice messaging system features enabled. Calls are received by the hunt group on one of the individual hunt group telephone numbers.

  • Patent number: 5420914
Abstract: A method and system for real time selection of an inter-exchange telephone carrier for a telephone call. The system includes a processing, storage and routing equipment capable of performing the method steps of generating a call information signal, storing a carrier rate for each of the plurality of carriers, each carrier rate including a toll, calling day and calling time, processing the call information signal and the carrier rates to select the carrier having the least expensive toll for the day and time the call is placed, and routing the call through the carrier selected.

  • Patent number: 5291928
Abstract: An adjustable fence for orienting a plate joiner having a body and a rotating generally planar cutter to cut an arcuate slot in a workpiece is disclosed. The fence comprises a base, a handle and a fastening mechanism. The base is shiftably affixed to the plate joiner body and has a planar surface forming a first fence oriented generally perpendicular to the plane of the cutter. The base also has a guideway parallel to the first fence. The handle is movably adjustably affixed to the base and has a grip portion adapted to cooperate with a hand of an operator and a planar surface forming a second fence forming an angle relative to the first fence. The handle cooperates with the base guideway enabling the second fence to be adjusted along a guideway axis parallel to the first fence relative to the planar cutter. The handle is pivotal about a transverse axis parallel to the first and second fences to vary the angle of the second fence relative to the first fence.
