Patent number: 8328482Abstract: A tensioner for tensioning foundation bolts generally used in securing large utility towers is provided. The tensioner generally comprises a hollow outer body through which the foundation bolt can extend. The lower end of the body, which is adapted to abut onto the foundation surface from which the bolt extends, is provided with an opening allowing access to a foundation nut threaded onto the foundation bolt. The upper end of the outer body slidingly receives therein an inner body with which it defines an annular hydraulic piston, the inner body being configured with a seat portion for receiving and engaging a split nut mounted to the foundation bolt. Upon providing hydraulic fluid to the tensioner, the hydraulic piston urges the split nut, engaged to the foundation bolt, upwardly, thereby tensioning the foundation bolt. The load in the bolt is then maintained by threading down the foundation nut until it abuts onto the foundation surface.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 2009Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Assignee: Integra Technologies Ltd.Inventors: Gordon Britton, David Hughes

Patent number: 8312945Abstract: An assembly is provided for limiting the displacement of a track system mounted to the axle of a vehicle. The assembly generally comprises an anchor bracket and a stabilizing rod. The anchor bracket is configured to be fixedly mounted to the chassis of the vehicle whereas the stabilizing rod is pivotally and slidingly mounted, at one end, to the anchor bracket, and generally only pivotally mounted, at the other end, to the track system. While allowing limited rotation, the limiting assembly generally prevents excessive rotation of the track system about the axle.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2009Date of Patent: November 20, 2012Assignee: Soucy International Inc.Inventors: Robert Bessette, Louis-Frédéric Marchildon

Patent number: 8211370Abstract: The present invention provides a polymer synthesizer having a high efficiency production rate. The synthesis of the polymers, and more particularly of DNA and RNA, is done very quickly. Furthermore, it is possible to synthesize a plurality of polymers in the same batch without significantly increasing the time and the complexity of the process.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2007Date of Patent: July 3, 2012Inventor: Thomas Downing

Patent number: 8191905Abstract: The retractable wheel system of the present invention may be installed on a snowmobile ski without affecting its structural integrity by installing the system on the reinforced portion of the snowmobile ski. When a user circulates in a path with little or no snow, the retractable wheel system is positioned in the extended configuration by the user and the system will automatically return to the retracted configuration when the user returns in a snowy zone. This is realized by using a pre-tensioned spring that will reposition the wheel in the retracted configuration. The spring transmits a rotational movement to the member on which the wheel is fixed.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2009Date of Patent: June 5, 2012Inventor: Denis Beaudoin

Patent number: 8177310Abstract: The field-repair assembly is used for temporarily repairing a ruptured or otherwise damaged elastomeric track mounted on a vehicle and generally allows the vehicle to proceed, preferably on its own, to a maintenance site located nearby where replacement or permanent repair of the track can be undertaken. The assembly comprises a plurality of spaced-apart and generally parallel support members, each of which being generally transversely disposed on the ground engaging outer surface of the track. The transverse members are secured to each side of the track via retention brackets. The transverse members are further linked together via flexible cables which are fixedly mounted to retention brackets. The assembly further comprises a bridging element generally mounted to a subset of the transverse members. The bridging element is generally located over the damaged area of the track and on the outer surface thereof for providing continuity and support to the damaged track.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2007Date of Patent: May 15, 2012Assignee: Soucy International Inc.Inventors: Rémi Breton, Robert Bessette

Patent number: 8154715Abstract: A method for measuring and monitoring the state of polarization (SOP) of a polarization maintaining (PM) fiber using a narrowband fiber Bragg grating (FBG) written on the same is provided. The PM fiber comprises a first narrowband reference FBG which is used as a reference to measure and monitor the SOP of the PM fiber. Due to the birefringence properties of the PM fiber, the reference FBG typically reflects two narrowband spectra, each having a central wavelength; one in the slow axis and one in the fast axis. By measuring the intensity of the reflected spectra in each axis and by tuning the fiber with a polarization controller, it is possible to adjust the fiber to a predetermined SOP. Accurate measures of optical properties (e.g. reflectivity) of optical devices (e.g. a FBG grating), according to the predetermined SOP, are possible.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2007Date of Patent: April 10, 2012Assignee: ITF Laboratories Inc.Inventors: Changzun Zhou, Yunfei Zhao

Patent number: 8066152Abstract: A device that attaches to a bottle's neck has a base that secures to the bottle's neck and has two passages that traverse the base. The first passage leads to an enclosure located above the base that holds cooling material and optionally has a conduit that improves the heat exchange between a dispensing liquid and the cooling material retained in the enclosure. The exit passage of the enclosure has in at least one embodiment a valve. The second passage through the base forms a vent line that is located entirely below the enclosure and allows air to flow into the bottle as bottle's contents are dispensed through the first passage.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 2007Date of Patent: November 29, 2011Assignee: Ravi Solutions Inc.Inventors: Martin Tétreault, Jean-François Jodoin

Patent number: 8056656Abstract: This invention relates to a traction assembly for a vehicle which uses an endless traction band and a plurality of wheels for propulsion. More particularly, the traction assembly comprises a sprocket wheel which has a different size and number of sprocket teeth depending on whether the traction kit replaces the front wheels or the rear wheels of the vehicle. The sprocket wheel of the traction kit can also be configured such that its sprocket teeth are laterally offset. The traction kit can also comprise an anti-torque system that prevent physical contact between the traction kit and the vehicle and that can bias the position of the traction kit in order to improve the steering performance. Finally, the traction assembly can comprise a pivotable extension which lengthens the traction assembly and improves its traction capabilities.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 2010Date of Patent: November 15, 2011Assignee: Soucy International Inc.Inventors: André Todd, Robert Handfield, Robert Bessette, Chad Olson
