Abstract: Apparatus for extracting juice from vegetable or fruit stock material comprising a housing having a base with and an upper portion that has a cylindrical wall with an interior step along the top edge. An elongated extension projects from one position along the upper housing to form the base channel for a pulp discharge chute. An apertured cover having an interlocking wall positioned about its periphery and configured to mate with the upper housing wall also has a step formed therein which is complementary to the step in the upper housing wall.A motor is secured within the base with its shaft extending into the upper housing where it is coupled to a screen basket and a lower cutter blade assembly. An upper cutter bar assembly is positioned parallel to the lower blade assembly and acts to comminute vegetables and fruit.

  • Patent number: 4679792
Abstract: A golf putter head has a body with a cavity in its front face containing an insert member having a front, ball striking face co-planar with the front face of the body. The insert member comprises a honeycomb cellular structure with the cells of the structure filled with a resilient, epoxy material. The walls of the cellular structure are mounted in the cavity perpendicular to the inclined club striking face surface and have exposed cell edges co-planar with the surface of the resilient material and the club striking face surface for simultaneously impacting a golf ball. The putter head is further formed to have an upwardly curving sole. A curved neck attaches the head to the club shaft to position the striking face in line with the axis of the club shaft.

  • Patent number: 4678298
Abstract: An apparatus for three-dimensional photography provides left and right eye images alternately along the lens axis of a camera for recording alternately on a film strip. The left and right eye images are received along spaced first and second axes separated by a distance substantially consistent with the interocular distance of natural eyes, and are resolved alternately along the lens axis of the camera. Lens assemblies are provided for each eye image to provide a horizontal spread of between 40.degree. and 60.degree. which substantially matches the natural horizontal field of vision. The convergence of the first and second axes is adjustable. The camera may be provided with a viewfinder in which the left and right eye images are separated out again.

  • Patent number: 4677896
Abstract: A land rescue vehicle equipped to safely recover wounded or injured personnel or valuable equipment while under hostile fire is disclosed. A self-propelled vehicle is equipped with an armored body shell which extends downwardly to near ground level and substantially encloses the vehicle wheels to form a shielded space beneath the vehicle. An entry panel forming a portion of the vehicle shell at the front of the vehicle is selectively opened and closed to permit positioning the vehicle over an injured person and within the shielded space. Trap doors in the floor of the vehicle body provide passage from the shielded space to the safety of the interior of the vehicle for transport of the rescued person.

  • Patent number: 4676974
Abstract: Pancreatic exocrine function is determined by a breath test method wherein a radioactive labelled ester such as cholesterol octanoate is ingested in the body and is hydrolyzed by pancreatic enzymes and oxidized to labelled Co.sub.2 which is expired in the breath. The rate of appearance of labelled Co.sub.2 in the breadth is a function of the rate of hydrolysis by pancreatic enzymes which in turn reflects pancreatic exocrine function. Before ingestion, the ester is mixed with a carrier substrate such as a triglyceride to form a lipid matrix containing the ester and the lipid matrix is suspended in aqueous solution. To insure that low levels of expired labelled Co.sub.2 is due to pancreatic exocrine insufficiency, the ester is ingested simultaneously with a differentially labelled unesterfied carboxylic acid or the test method is repeated with an added step of simultaneously ingesting the ester with exogenously provided pancreatic enzymes.

  • Patent number: 4677553
Abstract: Secure placement of confidential information on tickets distributed in blank is permitted by opaquely overlaying an area of the ticket upon which the information is to be placed in visible form and employing a printing apparatus that prints the visible information on the ticket area through the opaque overlay without leaving any easily-discernible trace in the overlay that reveals the imprinted information. A ticket can be given in blank to a ticket holder. Then, when the ticket holder makes an exchange in order to receive the information, the information can be placed on the ticket, with the opaque overlay concealing the information until selectively removed by the ticket holder.

  • Patent number: 4671039
Abstract: A building block for use in building a structure consisting of linear or stepped courses of a plurality of blocks is designed such that any two types are required, a full block and a half block. Each full or half block consists of a substantially parallel piped body having upper and lower faces, opposed side walls and opposed end walls. The side walls and the end walls define a central cavity and the blocks are arranged to receive similar blocks in overlying and underlying relationship. The outer surfaces of the side walls and end walls each include interlocking means, preferably in the form of fluting, any of which may be interengaged with any of the interlocking means of the outer surfaces of another building block of the same type. In a structure the blocks may interlock with a juxtaposed block in side to side, end to end, or end to side disposition.

  • Patent number: 4671716
Abstract: The locking screw for the adjustable connection of a hinge strap to a base plate of a hinge has an external thread, with which the locking screw is screwed into a corresponding threaded hole in the hinge flap. The end face of the bolt portion of the locking screw abuts on the corresponding face of the base plate. In order to ensure a secure seating of the locking screw even under changing loads, a plate spring is attached to the end face of the locking screw and is spring-loaded axially, which abuts the base plate with its spring front face.

  • Patent number: 4669374
Abstract: A method for crushing metal cans into rectangular blocks or bales wherein cans are fed through a precrusher, which flattens and rips open the cans to drain liquids therefrom and leaves protruding torn tabs and flaps that facilitate bonding of the cans into a self-sustaining bale. The flattened cans are collected in a charging bin until a predetermined weight is reached; then the cans are released into a bale-forming chamber, which is closed by a hinged door forming an initial compression member. A ram then compresses the cans longitudinally in the chamber, the ram having ribs on the compression face to form grooves in the bale for future stack-retaining straps. A sliding door opens the end of the baling chamber for ejection of the formed bale by continued extension of the ram.

  • Patent number: 4666242
Abstract: An underwater electro-optical connector including male and female connector units, each having a longitudinal terminal socket for accepting the electro-optically conductive probe of a mating cable terminal unit. Each terminal socket has provision for forming electrical and optical connections with a terminal unit probe when the probe is inserted into it. Each probe has a central, electrically conductive tube which accepts a jacketed, buffered optical fiber and has a distal end. An optically conductive interface is provided on each probe distal end to provide an optical connection with the terminal socket into which the probe is inserted. Each probe is connected to an optical and one or more electrical conductors of a hybrid electro-optical cable. The cable terminal units mate with respective connector units, and the connector units are joined to provide, with the terminal units, an optical connection and one or more concentric elecrical connections between the terminated cables.

  • Patent number: 4667304
Abstract: A video signal producing a raster-scanned image is processed in real time to enhance high frequency characteristics of the image generated by the signal, with the enhancement performed according to a local adaptive process implemented in an apparatus including one or more two-dimensional higher-order filters. Each filter provides a signal corresponding to a statistical measure of the raster image at a point in the image centered in a local area. In each case, the measure is a function of characteristics of the image within the centered area. Each filter is synchronized with the video signal to provide its respective statistical signal substantially in real time and in phase with the input video signal.
