Abstract: A power detection circuit is described that provides for a wide dynamic range power detection. The circuit incorporates a coupler to sample a transmitted or received power. Such sampled power is then directed to a detector diode configured to generate a voltage from its rectified current. Such voltage after optional filtering and buffering is directed to multiple amplifiers wherein each amplifier has a distinct associated gain. For improved noise immunity, a differential output amplifier may be used. For low power levels, the output of an amplifier with a large gain is directed to an analog-to-digital converter (ADC), wherein the analog voltage is quantized into a digital value. As power is increased, the power of an amplifier stage with a small gain can then be directed to the ADC such that saturation of the ADC is avoided. Hysteresis is implemented so as to avoid undesirable and unnecessary rapid switching.

Abstract: The invention provides substituted quinoxalines having the general formulas where R1, R2, R3, and R4 are, inter alia, alkyl, aryl, or heteroaryl groups; Z is NH or O; and X is, inter alia, COOH or CONH2. The compounds of the invention have antiviral and immunomodulatory activity and are useful for treating infectious diseases, particularly viral infections.

Abstract: Power measurement and control in transmission systems are affected by changes in load conditions. A method and system are provided for detecting and controlling power levels independent of such load conditions.

Abstract: An electromagnetic absorber formed of conductive fiber or the like, such as carbon fiber having an overall length corresponding to the wavelength of electromagnetic waves to be absorbed, is mixed into a base material to form an electromagnetic wave-absorbing pavement material. The electromagnetic wave-absorbing pavement material is used to form a pavement having an electromagnetic wave absorbing course. Further, an electromagnetic wave reflecting course is disposed under the electromagnetic wave absorbing course, and the electric length of the electromagnetic wave reflecting course is set to a predetermined value in relation to the dielectric constant so that electromagnetic waves reflecting off the surface of the electromagnetic wave absorbing course and electromagnetic waves reflecting off the electromagnetic wave reflecting course have opposite phases and thereby cancel each other out, whereby the electromagnetic waves are absorbed well.

Abstract: A polishing apparatus includes a polishing jig. The polishing jig includes an elastic balloon member, a fixture, and a fluid supply portion. The fixture airtightly closes the rear opening portion of the balloon member. The fluid supply portion supplies a fluid into a space formed by the fixture and balloon member. The balloon member has a cup shape constructed by a dome portion and a cylinder portion extending backward from the outer periphery of the dome portion. The fixture fixes the opening portion of the cylinder portion of the balloon member.

Abstract: A new system and method for use in dynamic gaming environments such as Nevada-style casinos and Amerindian casinos is presented that enables using time-sensitive tickets as prizes. Block of tickets for a future event are allocated to a casino, which constitutes a “found” market (the ticket seller expends no funds for the tickets sold to the casino). This block may also be sold through normal reseller channels; the allocated block acts as a cap to the number of tickets potentially channeled through a casino rather than being a casino exclusive. This enables the casino to purchase the tickets at a steeper discount rates than is otherwise possible, and by associating tickets with payout events on games or progressives (instead of cash awards), enables time-sensitive tickets to be awarded as prizes on an on-going basis.

Abstract: The present invention provides a multi-channel tunable filter and methods for making such a filter. In one embodiment, the filter comprises a bank of gratings imprinted into a filter material, such as Lithium Niobate. In another embodiment, the filter comprises a bank of gratings imprinted on a thin-film filter. An optical read-head comprising a pair of lenses is configured to pass light from within an optical fiber carrying multiple wavelengths through an appropriate grating to extract or drop a specific wavelength. To ensure continuous data transmission, the filter is tuned to a wavelength by configuring the read-head to move in a hitless manner. In one embodiment, the gratings are recorded by the interference of two beams. A first plane wave reflects off a first mirror stack and a second plane wave reflects off a second mirror stack. In another embodiment, the gratings are recorded by a phase masking method.

Abstract: A method for applying an image to a target wax article is provided. The method comprises the steps: a) forming a reverse of the image on wax-coated transfer paper; b) transferring and reversing the reverse image to produce the image on the surface of a carrier wax article; and c) mounting the carrier wax article bearing the image to the target wax article. Wax articles, in particular candles, produced by the method are also provided.

Abstract: A system and method for adding a bonus round to any poker-style card game on a Nevada-style gaming machine. The bonus round is characterized by the existence of a match card. The match card is not part of the traditional poker hand (the “in-hand” cards) of the player, and only comes into play during a bonus round. The suit and value of the match card may be generated by the game machine or a remote game controller or backend server. The match card is then displayed in a manner visually associating the match card with one of the player's “in-hand” cards. A bonus is determined by evaluating the associated pair. Alternatively a bonus may be determined first, in which case the game machine determines a match card and associated card from the player's in-hand cards that is the equivalent of the predetermined bonus.

Abstract: A system of the present invention uses small swing differential source synchronous voltage and timing reference (SSVTR and /SSVTR) signals to compare single-ended signals of the same slew rate generated at the same time from the same integrated circuit for high frequency signaling. The SSVTR and /SSVTR signals toggle every time the valid signals are driven by the transmitting integrated circuit. Each signal receiver includes two comparators, one for comparing the signal against SSVTR and the other for comparing the signal against /SSVTR. A present signal binary value determines which comparator is coupled to the receiver output, optionally by using exclusive-OR logic with SSVTR and /SSVTR. The coupled comparator in the receiver detects whether change in signal binary value occurred or not until SSVTR and /SSVTR have changed their binary value. The same comparator is coupled if the signal transitions. The comparator is de-coupled if no transition occurs.

Abstract: In a system and method for securely storing and controlling the dispensing of a payout, the system includes a payout dispenser for securely storing and dispensing a payout, and a terminal for controlling the dispensing of the payout and for interfacing with an attendant in connection with the payout. The system may also include a device for indicating a payout payable responsive to the input of a person to whom the payout is payable, wherein the payout-indicating device may be connected to the payout dispenser and the terminal by a network. The system may further include a device for enabling the dispensing of a payout breakage amount, which is the difference between the payout in a payout dispenser denomination and the payment to be paid out.

Abstract: This invention relates to methods for transforming cotton using isolated shoot apical tips of seedlings. The apical shoot tips of cotton seedlings are isolated and chilled at a low temperature to slow the metabolic activity of the isolated cells, and then inoculated with a transforming agent carrying a desired gene. The invention also provides a method of regenerating transformed cotton plants with a desired trait from transformed apical shoot tips.

The clip is attached to a rear side of the lens holding frame to clamp glasses. The lens holding frame has a pair of axi-symmetrical C-shaped rims having open ends and opposing closed ends, and a connecting portion that connects the opposing closed ends of the rims. Each rim has an inner surface that forms an accommodating space for holding the trial lens to be pivotal and movable in a left-to-right direction.

Abstract: A radiation shielded semiconductor package for use in any variety of industries and applications is disclosed. In one embodiment, a radiation shielded semiconductor package comprises a radiation shielding base, one or more non-shielding sidewalls coupled to the shielding base, one or more radiation shielding flanges coupled to the sidewall, and one or more non-shielding coupling flanges coupled to the shielding flange. The base, the non-shielding sidewall, the shielding flange, and the non-shielding coupling flange define a device cavity, and at least one semiconductor device is positioned within the device cavity. A radiation shielding lid is coupled to the coupling flange and hermetically seals the semiconductor device within the device cavity. The shielding lid comprises shielding lid body and a non-shielding lid flange coupled to the lid body and is configured to couple to the coupling flange.

Abstract: A game bird decoy is formed as a shell representative of the upper portion that is above the waterline of a floating game bird represented. There is an open cavity below the upper portion that terminates in a waterline rim. The head is formed folded out with two similar sides to be folded together and bonded to yield a realistic head. The head is attached to the body by inserting the neck into a hole provided in the body shell. A slit in the neck provides access to the cavity within for storage of line, weight, and the like. The decoy is formed from flat sheet stock of closed cellular foam, preferably, of polyethelene. The color and color patterns as desired on the final product are applied to the flat sheet stock before vacuum forming. Painting, printing and silk screen processes are used as dictated by batch quantity considerations.
