  • Patent number: 4303530
Abstract: A blood filter in which the pore size of the filtering media generally decreases through a series of at least three stages where the filtering capacity of at least the first stage is chosen so as to accommodate without substantial impairment of function the quantity of large particle size debris which is normally present in a predetermined amount of blood. The filtering media is composed of several plies of porous material including both depth and screen filter elements. These filter elements are arranged in one or more elongated bands. The bands are spirally wound into a cylindrical form around a generally rigid, perforate core. The ends of the spirally wound cylindrically configured filter are sealed to produce a filter cartridge. The filter cartridge is in turn sealed into a container which has blood inlet and outlet ports arranged so that blood normally flows radially inwardly through the filter.

  • Patent number: 4296763
Abstract: A cap constructed of foamed synthetic polymeric material which is impregnated with a hair revitalizing oil composition is placed over the scalp portion of a human head. An oil impervious film is placed over the exterior of the cap, and heat is applied to the cap for a period of time sufficient to allow the hair revitalizing oil composition to permeate and saturate the hair.

  • Patent number: 4293132
Abstract: An article of manufacture for and a method of playing the skidwheel game. The invention comprises a longitudinally disposed generally flat playing surface with a design thereon containing value zones, used in combination with automobile steering wheel playing piece having a generally circular periphery which is linearly projected with a reverse spin along the longitudinal axis of said playing surface such that said wheel generally rolls in contact with said surface first in one direction and then in the reverse direction and either comes to rest within one of said zones or traverses the entire length of said playing surface and returns to its starting point, the desired effect depending on the method selected to award points for each toss.

  • Patent number: 4284374
Abstract: A tool holder has a shank to be coupled to a machine spindle; a driven member adapted to receive therein a tool and having peripheral dents and recesses; a sleeve member for transmitting a torque from the shank to the driven member, the sleeve member having inclined slots and first balls loosely fitted in respective inclined slots; a spring-loaded, cup-shaped member having an inclined wall surface engageable with the first balls; and second balls lodged in respective recesses in the driven member, so as to impede the sliding movement of the cup-shaped member toward the first balls. When a tool receives an unusual rotational resistance during the rotation in the normal direction, then the sleeve member interrupts transmission of a torque to the tool, and in turn continues idling. The rotation in the normal direction, of the tool is resumed by rotating the sleeve member in the reverse direction and then in the normal direction.

  • Patent number: 4269313
Abstract: A toothpick holder and dispenser that is especially adapted for carrying in the pocket of a user includes an elongated container having an open end and cap member covering the open end. Each member is integrally made of plastic material and has rounded corners to avoid damaging the pocket of the user. The container has a cylindrical main compartment for holding a quantity of toothpicks, and also has one circumferential portion of its exterior wall radially enlarged to provide a discharge compartment. The cap member is rotatable between one position in which it fully covers the discharge compartment and another position in which the discharge compartment is exposed for purpose of withdrawing a toothpick therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4265460
Abstract: A tool holder has a bore adapted to receive therein a tool having locking flat surfaces on the shank thereof, and a peripheral wall defining the bore; tangential holes running across the peripheral wall and having an aperture open to the bore; and locking cotters each having an inclined surface and disposed in each tangential hole movably in the axial direction thereof. Displacement of each locking cotter towards the mid portion of the tangential hole causes the inclined surface to press against the flat surface of the shank due to the wedge effect, thereby locking the shank to the peripheral wall. Increasing torque, which acts on the shank, moves the locking cotter in the axial direction to a further extent, thus providing an increased wedge effect, whereby a greatly increased shank retaining force is obtained.
