  • Patent number: 4301793
Abstract: A sigh producing mechanism in a blower type positive pressure respirator. In breathing, a normal person will occasionally take a deep breath, a sigh, to break the monotony of regular breathing. In artificial respiration, such occasional sighs are also desired. The sigh is produced by an increase in the speed of the blower for a few breathing cycles. To produce the sigh, the resistance to the blower motor is reduced and this is accomplished with the aid of a timer to space the sigh intervals and limit the duration of the sigh cycles.

  • Patent number: 4297201
Abstract: Particulate oil shale is subjected to a pyrolysis with a hot, non-oxygenous gas in a pyrolysis vessel, with the products of the pyrolysis of the shale contained kerogen being withdrawn as an entrained mist of shale oil droplets in a gas for a separation of the liquid from the gas. Hot retorted shale withdrawn from the pyrolysis vessel is treated in a separate container with an oxygenous gas so as to provide combustion of residual carbon retained on the shale, producing a high temperature gas for the production of some steam and for heating the non-oxygenous gas used in the oil shale retorting process in the first vessel. The net energy recovery includes essentially complete recovery of the organic hydrocarbon material in the oil shale as a liquid shale oil, a high BTU gas, and high temperature steam.

  • Patent number: 4290507
Abstract: Actuating apparatus for actuating a device such as a brake or clutch or the like comprising output force transfer apparatus movable between an open non-force applying position and closed force applying positions whereat a variable output force is applied to the device in the closed force applying positions; and wherein the actuating apparatus causes, movement of the output force transfer apparatus between the open position and the closed positions and exerts variably increasable output forces in the closed positions. A constant force applying apparatus continuously exerts a uniform substantially constant force of pre-selected magnitude on the output force transfer apparatus in the closed positions and holds the output force transfer apparatus in the open position.

  • Patent number: 4282044
Abstract: A composition and method whereby aluminum scrap, including consumer scrap, is recycled into aluminum sheet and aluminum containers. Aluminum scrap is melted in a heated furnace to form a melt composition. The melt is adjusted to form the present composition, consisting essentially of silicon, 0.1-1.0%; iron 0.1-0.9%; manganese 0.4-1.0%; magnesium 1.3-2.5%; copper 0.05-0.4%; and titanium, 0-0.2%, the balance being essentially aluminum. Aluminum scrap comprising consumer scrap, plant scrap, and can making scrap is heated to form the melt composition, which requires a minimum amount of adjustment to arrive at the present alloy composition. The composition is then cast and fabricated into sheet having strength and formability properties making it suitable for container manufacture. Container manufacture according to the process and composition of the present invention comprises drawn-and-ironed can body manufacture and easy-opening end manufacture.
