  • Patent number: 3999314
Abstract: The rotating cutting tool of a sub-grader is adjustably mounted transverse the front of the frame of the machine upon a tool support in a manner which isolates changes in grade from changes in slope and which minimizes the influence of changes in slope upon the grade of the tool. The transverse pivot axis for grade control of the tool support is located at an intermediate point on the main frame, while the cutting tool, its associated drive means and housing are mounted on an independent pivot axis for slope control that extends longitudinally on one side of the main frame. Any changes made in the grade are accomplished by raising and lowering the entire tool support on the transverse axis equally at both ends which does not alter the slope of the tool. The arc of movement is relatively long so that the change in fore and aft altitude of the tool is minimal. The rotating tool is maintained perpendicular to and in the plane of its longitudinal slope control axis by the tool frame.

  • Patent number: 3972284
Abstract: Painted color guide or coded areas for use in sewing, stitching or darning needle-point work are applied to needle-pont canvas by sequential stamping or rolling with shaped soft matt carriers while the canvas is supported upon and bi-axially oriented with a matching support grating. In one embodiment hand-operated apparatus is disclosed whereby the matt or pinned carrier and the grating are pivotally oriented one to the other for interengagement upon the canvas. In another embodiment the grating is in the form of at least one continuous belt over the top of which the canvas is moved against orienting pins for sequential application of a plurality of colored areas. In both embodiments the finished product is characterized by the accuracy and speed in which the color coded areas, making up the total design, are applied.

  • Patent number: 3955229
Abstract: End wall compartment closures for the stern parts of inflatable sponsons or pontoons for rubber boats are disclosed to enhance the gliding motion or planing action of the boat through the water and prevent distortion of the sponsons under variable inflation pressures while increasing the load carrying capacity and stability of such craft. In the several embodiments each of the elongated tubular sponsons that extend along the sides of a rubber boat is provided with a rigid-non-deformable closure wall that is essentially vertical to the longitudinal axis of the sponson or is in the form of an annular or tubular part or insert in the stern of the sponsons. The tubular inserts can be pot-shaped with circumferential grooves or ribs on the sides and have a bottom wall which forms the end compartment wall or closure wall for the sponson.

  • Patent number: 3950032
Abstract: A wedge-shaped split ring is interposed between the rim and hub of a heavy vehicle wheel to prevent the rim and hub from separating during use and maintain a predetermined relationship or proper contact at the yield point between the wheel and hub during extreme torque and weight conditions. Bolts are provided for axially tensioning the split ring relative to a cam surface to the required radial support and contact. The mounting is designed primarily for extremely heavy duty earth moving equipment and the like. The split ring is expanded or contracted by adjustably tensioning bolts to distribute the weight of the vehicle upon the hub.

  • Patent number: 3949842
Abstract: A device to prevent the light-channel ring and lighting fixtures of high mast lighting installations from falling in the event of failure of the main hoisting cable or in the event of failure or inadvertent release of the releasable supporting means at the top of the mast. During normal hoisting operations the device is held in a closed or released position by the applied hoisting forces and opens or locks when the light-channel ring is locked in place at the top of the mast for double security. If the load should be released through failure or interruption of the hoisting cable, the device opens and locking arms expand therefrom and contact the tapered inside wall of the mast to instantly lock the cable assembly at any position therealong. A spring-loaded pin and ratchet prevent the arms from retracting once they are released, thus preventing advance of the device into portions of the mast of smaller diameter.

  • Patent number: 3936211
Abstract: A slip form or mule for continuously laying concrete along the contoured side wall and top edge of a drainage ditch. The slip form is affixed to or pivotally mounted from the side of a construction machine that travels along the top side of the ditch. An integral open-bottomed sloping hopper feeds concrete to the slip form which has an adjustable top wall extension and an extendable end wall and sides that simultaneously adjust and are guided on the top slanted wall of the slip form to form a concrete slab of different widths. The frame also supports a trailing screed that is pivoted from and supported by one or more biased bell cranks and canted toward the slope of the ditch side. The hopper has a series of adjustable weirs and vibrating means to spread and consolidate the concrete before the front opening of the slip form.
