Abstract: A low power, low cost distributed digital loop (DDL) carrier system that combines television and voice telephone signal transmission over coaxial cables. The DDL system employs a passive/active tap module (114) that controls the steering of the video and telephone signals. The high frequency down stream telephone signal is not processed until a routing terminator (110) converts it to lower frequency signal for transmission in the lower frequency subsplit channel. The telephone signal is then transmitted back up through the subsplit where the active circuitry of each tap intercepts the telephone signal, selects the needed signal and transmits it down to a network interface unit (120) located at the subscriber premises.

Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for transmission of dual 4-wire analog data services between a telephone company location and a subscriber premises over a single twisted pair, providing a 4:1 pair gain. In a preferred embodiment the invention provides for method and apparatus for transmission of multiple analog data signals for dual 4-wire analog data services over a single twisted pair from telephone company equipment to a subscriber, using 2B1Q or 4B3T digital signals.

Abstract: A system and devices for publication of newspapers and the like. The system uses an electronic memory/display unit (24) which preserves the convenience of printed material, but which has the advantages of a computer display. The system utilizes a cable television (CATV) network to distribute the information. Data are transmitted over the system from a newspaper publication facility (2). The newspaper publication facility is provided with a data processing facility (4) that transmits newspaper data (6) to a satellite transmitting facility (8). The transmitted data are provided to a cable television satellite receiving station (12) by way of satellite link (14). Signal generators (16) are coupled to the satellite link and provide appropriate signals to a CATV network transmission facility (18). Network transmission facility (18) transmits newspaper signals over a CATV line (20) to a plurality of subscriber facilities (22) with the electronic memory/display units.

Abstract: A method and apparatus 200 for transferring analog voice telephone signals and digital data service signals simultaneously from a telephone company location to a customer premises over a single twisted pair telephone line 205. The present apparatus 200 includes an easily installed voice plus digital data service remote terminal 203 and voice plus digital data service central office terminal 201. The present apparatus can provide a 3-to-1 pair gain by multiplexing signals representing the analog voice telephone signals and 4-wire digital data service signals.
