    Abstract: An anesthetist's device for inducing constant positive pressure within the airway passages of a patient, adaptable for use with a mouthpiece, a mask, or in conjunction with an endotracheal tube. Said device comprises a hollow, cylindrical channel serving as a conduit for gases either spontaneously or mechanically aspired by a patient. Interposed into said channel is a narrow diameter nozzle venting compressed gas in the direction of inspired flow. By regulating the mass flow rate of compressed gas through said nozzle, variable levels of constant positive airway pressure can be produced.

    Abstract: An apparatus for the concentration of solar energy upon a fixed array of solar cells. A transparent material is overlayed upon the cell array, and a diffuse reflective coating is applied to the surface area of the transparent medium in between cells. Radiant light, which reflects through the transparent layer and does not fall directly incident to a cell surface is reflected by the coating layer in an approximate cosine pattern. Thereafter, such light undergoes internal reflection and rediffusion until subsequently it either strikes a solar cell surface or is lost through the upper surface of the transparent material.

    Abstract: A security wallet be attached to the waistband of a person's garment for disposition between the person's body and the garment is securely but detachably mounted to the waistband by a locking device comprising an inverted U-shaped clip, at least one latch member on said clip interiorly thereof having a serrated edge thereon, and means comprising a rotary shaft for moving each said latch member from a first open position adjacent one wall of said clip to a second closed position wherein said serrated edge thereof is adjacent the other wall of said clip. The latch member or members in open position permit easy attachment of the clip to and easy detachment of the clip from a waistband, and in closed position confine waistband material between each latch member and said other wall of said clip so that attempted removal of said clip from the waistband results in the serrations on each latch member digging into the waistband material and preventing removal of said clip and wallet from the waistband.

    Abstract: This sewage and waste water treatment introduces a different approach to the usual biological digestion of organic solids and sterilization thereof in the effluent. It proceeds from the concept that all sediments and suspended solids to 20 microns or less are removed immediately and continuously from the in-flow, and the almost suspended solid-free flow therefrom is treated in a unique manner with ozone so as to react chemically with the dissolved and remaining suspended solids by oxidation to produce precipitations, gasifications and sterilization which in turn are removed immediately and continuously to 5 microns or less, thus greatly reducing the ozone requirements for the oxidation reactions. The liquid effluent discharged from this process is a clear and sterilized liquid having no contaminants harmful to biological life.

The present invention relates to an apparatus which comprises a solid spherical radiant energy collector, a radiant energy detector which converts radiant energy into electrical signal, a light conductor which transmits a portion of the radiant energy within the spherical collector to the detector, a means for conditioning the electrical signal such that the electrical signal responds to the intensity of the incident flux, and a means for displaying the conditioned signal. The apparatus further includes a spectral shaping assembly located intermediate the detector and the light conductor whereby the spectral characteristics of the radiant energy are adjusted to compensate for apparatus response in the desired spectral region.

    Abstract: Small highly charged droplets are produced without concurrent production of corona by conducting a liquid to a nozzle having a tip from which droplets of the liquid can exit, and forming a substantially uniform electric field over the surface of the liquid on the tip, the field being large enough to pull off droplets from the tip but not so large as to create corona discharge. Selected gas, solid particulates and liquid mists from gaseous effluents such as are produced by smelters, coal or oil-burning steam generators, chemical refineries and the like are removed by means of a unique electrostatic collector using the highly charged droplets. These droplets are caused to drift, by means of an electric field, through the gaseous effluent to a collecting electrode absorbing selected gases and aerosol particles and carrying them to a collecting electrode.

    Abstract: A brake housing cleaner that comprises a rigid curvilinear bonnet adapted to fit snugly over a brake housing, the bonnet which passes over the housing, the rim member being of an elastic material such as rubber, which is of a size and shape as to provide the snug fit over the housing. The bonnet is equipped with an opening connected by means of a hose to an air vacuum means. The wall of the bonnet is equipped with a plurality of apertures, each of which is provided with a rubbery material equipped with a self-closing lip through which an air nozzle can be inserted whereby to effect a resilient snug fit between the outside wall of the nozzle and the sides of the self-closing lip. In a partiularly preferred form of the invention, the said apertures are positioned substantially nearer the opening of the bonnet which passes over the brake housing than to the opening connecting the bonnet to the air vacuum means.

    Abstract: An exercising device comprising two flexible lines, each line having a stirrup member at one end for receiving a person's foot therein and a loop member at the other end for grasping with a person's hand. The stirrup and loop members are each attached, by means of a slip-knot, onto the flexible lines between knots which are located at predetermined points on the lines. This permits a simple adjustability of the functional lengths of the lines to accommodate persons of different heights. Each of the lines passes over one of a pair of pulleys. A hanger line passes through a hollow tubular spacer and through openings located one at each end of the spacer and knots tied just above those openings. Each of the pulleys has a rotating eye through which the hanger lines passes as it leaves the ends of the spacer. A knot is tied above the said openings at the ends of the spacer thus anchoring each of the pulleys in place.

The remote detection of pollutants emitted in source effluents, e.g., gas from a smokestack, involves specific spectral measurements of infrared radiation and, in this method, includes ratioing the signals from two gas-reference cell pairs to eliminate dependencies upon the inlowering atmosphere and source effluent temperature. An instrument cell construction and assembly using a unique cells-within-a cell permits use of a single lens that insures common fields-of-view for both cell pairs; a triple chopping system uses tuning forks to alternately pass the incoming energy through the gas and reference cells eliminating the need for separate sync signal generators, and provides a high carrier frequency improving the signal-to-noise ratio of the sensor.

The cloth, cotton or polyester cloth of the type made from monofilaments of the condensation product of ethylene glycol with terephthalic acid or dimethyl phthalate is, after application thereof onto the airframe, coated with a layer of latex and dried, then coated with a second, or intermediate, layer of different coating and dried, and then coated with a decorative coating material. The use of latex as a first coat on the cloth results in substantial savings in labor and time and results in a coated fabric of superior flexibility integrity and durability.
