  • Patent number: 5002323
Abstract: A tweezer for removal of ticks has two legs (10, 12), connected at one end (11) by a loop formed spring, pinched together partly within a movable cylinder (26), which through the action of a coil spring (24) is pushed against the bent portions of the legs' (10, 12) end parts in order to exert a preset squeezing force between the end parts and their sharp edged gripping points (19). By retracting the cylinder (26) the gripping points (19) are opened and when the cylinder (26) is released, the legs' (10, 12) end portions and their gripping points (19) can grasp the tick (40) and its head (38) with such a predetermined force that the tweezer will lose its grip if the tick's head (38) has not first been loosened by turning. The turning is brought about by turning the cylinder (26), which maintains the predetermined pinching force by the help of the coil spring (24).

  • Patent number: 5003317
Abstract: A stolen vehicle recovery system (20) in which a vehicle transceiver (30) is disposed on each vehicle (28) for cyclically transmitting a pulsed signal which is modulated by a data stream comprising a verification code, a unique identity code associated with the vehicle (28), and a code which corresponds to whether the detected vehicle (28) is moving or stationary. The vehicle transceiver (30) is automatically activated if a proper authorization signal is not provided to the transceiver (30) by a verification unit. A scanning receiver (42) decodes the pulsed signal and provides the information to a control processor (40) which, in turn, sets remote direction finding receivers (44, 46, 48), set up in a triangulation antenna array, to the appropriate channel. • Patent number: 4997959
Abstract: A process for the hydrogenation of a 6-methylenetetracycline in the production of alpha-6-deoxytetracycline, particularly the antibiotic doxycycline, in the presence of a transition metal complex of the formula MCl.sub.x (PPh.sub.3).sub.y wherein M is Cu, Co or Ni, x is 1 or 2 and y is 1-3, and a trace of rhodium either as the supported metal or as a rhodium salt, as a hydrogenation catalyst. The desired alpha-6-deoxytetracycline product is produced in high yields and stereospecificities.
