  • Patent number: 4475311
Abstract: A window construction having fixed and movable frames and an associated latch assembly. The latch assembly includes a latch housing, a latch member reciprocable within said housing and a cam lock. The cam lock is rotatably mounted within the housing and has a first position wherein the cam lock urges a latch member into a locked position and a second position wherein the latch member may be moved to an unlocked position. The cam lock is preferably composed of a resilient, resinous material and has a cantilevered portion which engages a portion of the latch member. A special tool or key of predetermined configuration may be required to rotate the cam member. Among other uses, the latch may be employed in connection with double hung windows which are adapted to be tilted inwardly for cleaning. In such use the windows may be subjected to sliding movement regardless of the latch position, but tilting movement may be accomplished only when the latch assembly is in a locked position.

  • Patent number: 4475079
Abstract: Apparatus for detecting and locating a fault in an electric cable using a pulse-echo technique comprises means for injecting step function or single pulses into a cable, means for digitizing and storing the pulse-echo signal obtained under two different conditions of the cable, and means for retrieving the signals obtained under the two said conditions, comparing them and thus locating the position of the fault. Preferably, the apparatus also includes means for detecting whether the cable is "live and healthy" or "live and faulty" by obtaining a digital pulse signal indicating that a voltage is present on the cable, obtaining a second digital pulse signal indicating by a series of pulses when the current in the cable is above the normal load current and gating these two signals in a NAND gate to obtain a signal representing the state of the cable.

  • Patent number: 4474508
Abstract: An earthquake-resistant off-shore gravity structure which can stand on the sea bed under its own weight and the weight of any ballast carried by the structure has coupled to its undersurface a separately formed substantially flat concrete foundation grid which underlies at least a major part of the area of the undersurface of the structure, which is of a thickness substantially less than the height of the base and which has a downwardly extending projection for penetrating the sea bed. The coupling between the structure and the foundation grid is such that vertical loads on the structure are transferred through the foundation grid to the sea bed and is such that, for horizontal forces on the structure less than a predetermined maximum value, relative movement between the foundation grid and the structure is substantially prevented and, for a horizontal force equal to or in excess of said maximum value, limited relative movement between the foundation grid and the structure is permitted.

  • Patent number: 4469030
Abstract: A tubular member 10 has another tubular member 12 slidable therein, and an insert 20 for locating the member 12 inside the member 10. A flange 14 on the member 12 carries a work top 16 of a work bench. The insert 20 prevents movement of the lower end of the member 12 in relation to the member 10, and so makes the whole structure rigid. The member 12 supports equipment such as a light 24.

  • Patent number: 4467699
Abstract: A valveless, pneumatic motor including a cylinder within which a hammer piston reciprocates and a buffer ring fixedly secured within the cylinder. A source of motive fluid under pressure cooperates with the buffer ring which through supply porting provides pressurized motive fluid alternately to opposed faces of the piston head. Intake ports are formed within the piston stem and adapted to cooperate intermittently with the buffer ring supply porting to provide motive fluid to the piston interior wherein an axial bore transmits the fluid along the stem toward the piston head and discharge porting delivers the motive fluid to the forward face of the piston head thereby urging the piston rearwardly. A reduced diameter portion of the piston stem then comes into communication with the buffer ring supply porting and permits the motive fluid to impinge directly on the rearward face of the piston head without passage through the piston to urge the piston forwardly.
