  • Patent number: 7077130
Abstract: A disposable aerosol generator for use with an inhaler device which includes a heater adapted to volatilize fluid stored in the disposable aerosol generator and method of using the inhaler. The disposable body includes a sealed chamber and an outlet, the chamber being located between first and second layers of material. The chamber holds a predetermined volume of a fluid which is expelled through the outlet when the fluid in the chamber is volatilized by the heater. The disposable body can include a series of spaced apart aerosol generators, each of which can be advanced to a release position at which the heater can heat one of the fluid containing chambers. Prior to heating the fluid, the outlet can be formed by severing the first and/or second layer with a piercing element and the volatilized fluid can be expelled from the outlet into a passage of a dispensing member.

  • Patent number: 7074170
Abstract: A filter making apparatus includes a positioning device having a passageway therethrough, with the passageway guiding a continuous flavor element such as a continuous strand of textile material from an inlet of the passageway to an outlet of the passageway. A liquid flavorant is introduced into the passageway at a desired flow rate and the strand of material carries the supplied liquid flavorant out of the positioning device at a rate substantially equal to the desired flow rate. A portion of the passageway can form a bath of the liquid flavorant supplied to the passageway through a separate inlet at approximately atmospheric pressure. A portion of the positioning device guides the continuous strand of material through the bath, or guides the strand to pass along the bottom of the passageway, and the saturated or partially saturated strand of material then exits from an outlet of the passageway to a point in the path of filter tow material that is being converged to form a filter rod.

  • Patent number: 7041470
Abstract: Biofilm forming organisms are incubated to form a biofilm on projections by providing a flow of liquid growth medium across projections, the direction of the flow of liquid being repeatedly changed, and an assay made of the resulting biofilm. Biofilm forming organisms are incubated to form a biofilm on projections arranged in rows, with several projections in each row, while providing a flow of liquid growth medium across each row of projections, and an assay made of the resulting biofilm. Sensitivity of the biofilm to antimicrobial reagent may be determined by treating the projections with antimicrobial reagent before carrying out the assay, by treating each row of projections with a different antimicrobial reagent, and each of the projections in a row with a different concentration of antimicrobial reagent.

  • Patent number: 7037452
Abstract: A method for the automated optimization of an injection molding machine set-up process comprising injection molding one or more parts, inspecting the parts for defects, adjusting the injection stroke and/or the injection velocity and repeating the process until the defects are reduced. There is also disclosed a method comprising injection molding one or more parts, determining a mean injection pressure profile by measuring the injection pressure with the machine configured with a constant, desired injection velocity. Then the velocity profile is adjusted to reduce differences between the measured pressure and the mean pressure profile. A further method is disclosed wherein the kickback is calculated and adjusted from screw displacement, packing/holding time and pressure. Also disclosed is a method comprising injection molding one or more parts then determining the gate freeze time by incrementing the holding time and measuring the screw displacement.

  • Patent number: 6998162
Abstract: An optical recording medium having a phase transition material film and a method of manufacturing the optical recording medium are provided. In the method, first, a phase transition material film, a sacrificial film, and a metal film are sequentially stacked on a substrate. Next, the metal film is anodized to form a metal oxide film having a plurality of holes, and portions of the sacrificial film exposed through the holes are anode-oxidized to form oxide films. Thereafter, the phase transition material film is patterned by removing the metal oxide film and by etching the sacrificial film and the phase transition material film using the oxide films as a mask. Then, the oxide films are removed from the sacrificial film, and an upper insulation film, a reflection film, and a protection film are deposited on the upper surface of the patterned phase transition material film.
