  • Patent number: 6639679
Abstract: An integrated wavelength monitor and a method for obtaining such a device are disclosed. The device suitable for integration into a laser semiconductor laser module for fiber optic communication can be made in the following way: An interference filter is created directly onto a position sensitive photo detector by depositing a number of layers of different optical transparent materials forming an optical filter. The interference filter may also be created separately and subsequently mounted directly on top of the detector. The integrated position sensitive device (13) is mounted with an angle behind a laser in the same position as a normal power monitor detector. The electrically derived lateral position of light hitting the Position Sensitive Device provided with the interference filter will be dependent of the wavelength of the incident light and this derived position is used for the wavelength monitoring.

  • Patent number: 6501972
Abstract: A microwave device includes a number of parallel-plate resonators that include at least one dielectric substrate and first and second plates arranged on either side of the substrate. At least one of the plates of each of a number of the parallel-plate resonators includes a current interrupting device such that the current lines of at least one undesired mode are interrupted at their maxima to suppress the undesired mode. There is also described a method of interrupting undesired modes in a microwave device having a number of parallel-plate resonators.

  • Patent number: 6466160
Abstract: The receive part of an array antenna of base station system may be interpreted as self-calibrating. However the transmit direction of the array antenna may not coincide with the receive direction due to the difference in receive and transmit frequency. The present application teaches how a correction be performed for the transmitting direction by using the same phase compensations of the receiving direction also in the transmitting direction with a proportional correction for the difference in transmit frequency. A Frequency Domain Duplex (FDD) system is foreseen as the prerequisite for the applicability of present invention, but it will also work for a Time Division Duplex (TDD) system. By calculating during reception a first feed cable weight set by means of an adaptive algorithm at the receive frequency a corresponding second cable weight set for a transmit frequency can be calculated.

  • Patent number: 6463443
Abstract: For directory services for telecommunication, a data network, a terminal connected to the data network, at least one database in the data network, and a device for interactive communication between the terminal and the network regarding the database are provided. The database includes catalogue data regarding subject information about persons/families/companies, so that catalogue searches using different search criteria can be done. The desired information and adequate search criteria may be asked for from the terminal. The search is performed, and the desired catalogue data is presented visually on a display of the terminal asking for the subject information. The device also includes a reliable database outside the network, accessible and changeable only by admitted operating staff devices, and a transmitter for transmitting information from the reliable database to at least a reliable part of the database inside the network.

  • Patent number: 6452940
Abstract: The present invention describes a method of migrating a mobile station, operating within an integrated D-AMPS/EDGE wireless telecommunication network, from the D-AMPS packet portion of the network to the EDGE/GPRS packet portion of the network. The technique includes accessing the control channels of both the D-AMPS and EDGE networks in order to obtain the necessary timing advance and packet transfer identifier for use with the GPRS packet system. In an embodiment of the invention, the MS makes a first access on a D-AMPS control channel to obtain a pointer to a reserved radio block on an EDGE packet control channel. The MS makes a second access on the EDGE control channel as specified by the reserved radio block which contains a particular frequency and timeslot location. The MS then sends a series of shortened bursts to the network such that a Timing Advance Index (TAI) value is calculated from the bursts and sent back to the MS.

  • Patent number: 6415333
Abstract: A distributed communication system includes a number of nodes, each including a number of resources, which nodes are interconnected by an interconnection network. Distributed applications are executed through sending messages between resources in the nodes. The resources are categorized into a number of function types. Resources grouped into one and the same function type are functionally equivalent at least to a given extent so that a number of function type instances are provided for each function type. Each node includes an information holding device keeping information about which function type instances correspond to a given function type and distribution functions associated with the information holding device for selecting a receiving function type instance among the available instances. A resource sending a message only has to give the function type as address information, and the distribution function selects which function type instance will be the receiver.

  • Patent number: 6367013
Abstract: Digital signatures are not valid indefinitely but only during the validity periods of their authentication certificates, which themselves are not indefinite but typically expire in order to limit the chances for compromise of the digital signatures. This poses a problem for electronic information objects that are intended to have legal weight for periods longer than the remaining validity period of a signature. There are thus provided methods of handling stored electronic original objects that have been created by signing information objects by respective transfer agents, submitting signed information objects to a trusted custodial utility, validating the submitted signed information objects by at least testing the integrity of the contents of each signed information object and the validity of the signature of the respective transfer agent, and applying to each validated information object a date-time stamp and a digital signature and authentication certificate of the trusted custodial utility.

  • Patent number: 4244321
Abstract: A development electrode arrangement located in closely-spaced parallel relation to the charge retaining surface of a moving electrographic recording medium. A toner application unit feeds electrostatically charged toner particles into the space between the development electrode arrangement and the charge retaining surface of the recording medium. The development electrode arrangement is comprised of an array of electrode segments each segment being electrically isolated from each other segment and each segment being allowed to float electrically. The floating electrode segments are so arranged that every element of the recording medium that is subjected to the toning process passes over at least one electrode segment during the toning process.
