Patent number: 5485517Abstract: The invention is the construction of a portable telephone made short enough and flat enough to be conveniently carried upon the person, yet allowing it to be quickly reconfigured into a form that is long enough and contoured enough to be effective and natural to use. The telephone chassis includes a pair of chassis sections which are interconnected by a pivot connection about which the chassis sections are rotated between open or closed positions. The pivot connection defines a pivot axis and a plane of rotation which are oriented in angulated relation with both chassis sections so that the chassis sections define a compact configuration when closed and an ergonomic configuration when rotated to the open position. A manually releasable spring urged locking mechanism is provided to lock the chassis sections against relative rotation at both the open and closed positions.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1995Date of Patent: January 16, 1996Inventor: Robert R. Patent number: 5484073Abstract: A method for fabricating a connecting spring member (24) of an arbitrary shape extending between a central mass (21) and an outer support frame (23) of a sensor as shown in FIG. 7 is disclosed. Each of a pair of generally identical silicon wafers (10, 12) has an inner etch stop layer (16) applied to one face with an outer epitaxial layer (18) formed over such etch stop layer (16). A photosensitive oxide layer (30) is applied to the other face of each of the wafers (10, 12). Next, a pattern of the central mass (21) and outer support frame (23) as shown in FIG. 2 is photographically imposed on the photosensitive oxide layers (18) of each wafer (10, 12). After wet chemical etching of the wafers (10, 12) removes silicon material to the etch stop layer, and the etch stop layer is itself removed in the space between the mass and the frame, the two wafers (10, 12) are bonded to each other as shown in FIG. 5 .Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 1994Date of Patent: January 16, 1996Assignee: I/O Sensors, Inc.Inventor: Raymond K. Patent number: 5474103Abstract: A safety guard or lockout device (22) for a dual chamber orifice fitting device (1) having a removable orifice plate (4). In a normal position when the upper and lower chambers (8, 9) are equal in pressure, the guard (50) of the safety guard device (22) is in a retracted position relative to the square end (36) of a valve gear shaft (18) as shown in FIG. 3 to permit connection of a manual tool, such as a wrench, to square end (36) of valve gear shaft (18) for actuation of isolation valve member (16). When changing the orifice plate (4), the pressure in the upper chamber (8) is reduced to atmospheric conditions and provides a fluid pressure differential between chambers (8) and (9). The fluid pressure differential moves fluid responsive member (30) and guard (50) to an extended position covering the square end (36) of valve gear shaft (18) to prevent access of a manual tool to the shaft (18) thereby preventing operation of the isolation valve (16) separating the upper chamber (8) from the lower chamber (9).Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1995Date of Patent: December 12, 1995Inventor: Steven P. Klak

Patent number: 5468066Abstract: An apparatus and method for injecting dry particulate material into a fluid flow line including a removable material supply unit (18) having an outer rigid container (55) and a sealed flexible bag (54) for the dry particulate material. The removable material supply unit (18) is mounted on a container support (13) above a mixing chamber (12) with a valve member (40) controlling the flow or dispensing of the dry particulate material into the mixing chamber (12). A pump (32) when energized exerts a vacuum in the mixing chamber (12). Water enters the mixing chamber (12) from an elliptical discharge opening (10) tangential to mixing chamber (12) to provide a vortex. Pump (32) exerts a vacuum within the mixing chamber (12) above the level of the water so that any upward migration of moisture from the water in the mixing chamber (12) is prevented by the vacuum when pump (30) is energized.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1994Date of Patent: November 21, 1995Inventor: Carl L. Patent number: 5469404Abstract: A marine seismic signal source apparatus and method that maximizes the usable acoustical (db) energy of the array signature in a lower frequency bandwidth. The apparatus forms a three dimensional 2.times.4.times.2 array having a plurality of 8 air guns of identical firing chamber size (10 cubic inch) operably arranged in pairs at different water depths. Firing of the guns in a top to bottom time delayed sequence shifts the frequency domain of the peak acoustical db signal to concentrate the usable seismic energy in the deeper earth formation penetrating range. The frequency boundaries of the bandwidth of the occurrence of the peak 6 db increment of acoustical power are lowered and compressed into a narrower bandwidth by the firing sequence.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1994Date of Patent: November 21, 1995Inventors: Harold P. Barber, Clyde Lee

Patent number: 5456413Abstract: A rotary water blast nozzle assembly includes an inner body member and a mandrel that supports a spray head having an internal bushing that rotates on the mandrel. Seals on the of the bushing are spaced at selected distance points from radial flow ports in its center. The resultant of operating pressure forces acting inward on the outside of the bushing between the seals, and gradually diminishing pressures acting outwardly in the clearance from the center toward the ends of the bushing, together with frusto-conically shaped sections of the bushing, cause uniform inward deflection that reduces the clearance in proportion to the operating pressure to inhibit leakby.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1994Date of Patent: October 10, 1995Assignee: Edward J. StachowiakInventor: Fife B. Ellis

Patent number: 5448738Abstract: A method of communication in a computer system is provided for transferring information between multiple, concurrently operating programs, each of which may have a respective window display. The user communicates with each of the application programs through the window display as well as through an input device, such as a mouse or keyboard. A list of information codes is registered with a dispatcher program for each of the application programs which requires data. One or more of the application programs generate templates which include data and a corresponding information code. The generated templates are transmitted to the dispatcher program. The dispatcher program then compares the information code in the received template to the registered list of information codes to find any matches and thereby identify the one or more application programs which have registered to receive the information in the received template.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 1993Date of Patent: September 5, 1995Assignee: Landmark Graphics CorporationInventors: William E. Patent number: 5437316Abstract: A method and apparatus for dripless filling of liquid material within containers wherein a filling nozzle is moved downwardly or the container is moved upwardly until its shroud engages the upper end of the container and positions its nozzle into the container. After transferring a measured volume of liquid into the container, the filling head is moved upwardly out of contact with the liquid and vacuum is applied immediately at the lower tapered tip of the dispensing nozzle to recover any drippage descending downwardly to the point of the tip. Simultaneously with its withdrawal from the container, residual liquid is wiped from the external tubular member into the container, leaving only a small quantity of residual liquid on the tapered tip which is easily recovered by the vacuum system. The recovered drippage is transferred by the vacuum system to a vacuum chamber and is then selectively transferred from the vacuum chamber to a supply chamber for subsequent filling operation.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1993Date of Patent: August 1, 1995Assignee: McPherson Dripless Systems Co., Inc.Inventor: Dennis D. McPherson
