  • Patent number: 8333641
Abstract: A method and system for operating a multi-player wireless video-game session is disclosed. In one embodiment, a wireless device is configured to establish a wireless ad-hoc connection with another wireless device capable of serving a video game over the ad-hoc network. The wireless device is capable of communicating with the ad-hoc connection through other networks such that a video-game player in one region may move between geographic regions without loss of game play and/or may join other video games associated with other networks. In one embodiment, in response to the user joining the video game, a selection of characters along with personalities and behaviors based on attributes supplied by the user is presented to the user for selection thereof. In another embodiment, the user may transfer a selected personality to another character associated with the video game, such as a computer operated video-game character.

  • Patent number: 7944359
Abstract: Users are located to determine if the user is within, or has departed from, at least one bounded area established about a geographic location. The bounded area may be defined by setting one or more distance boundaries from the geographic location. A base station may monitor the location of a mobile device in proximity of the user. If the mobile device departs from a bounded area, a message containing information configured to be understandable and convey meaning to the user and/or a third-party is sent to the mobile device and/or the third-party. For example, the message may be configured to communicate to the user and/or third-party information pertaining to the departure from the bounded area, location information, navigation directions, instructions, etc. The message sent may include text and/or other symbols.

  • Patent number: 7599770
Abstract: A system and method is provided to track and log the distance traveled by a vehicle during a trip and other expenditures related to the trip. The system is capable of categorizing the trip as business or pleasure. In one embodiment, a tracking device receives global positioning data and/or distance data from the vehicle's odometer. The system receives and stores travel data such as voice, geographic location, receipts, time, date, notes, pictures, etc. to provide verification for the purpose of the trip. In one configuration, the system queries the user for verification data at various intervals such as when the user starts the trip or when the motion of the vehicle has stopped for a predetermined length of time. The system can display the trip information to the user and allow the user to output the travel data to another device such as a printer and/or a third party, etc.

  • Patent number: 7535369
Abstract: Method and apparatus to provide a wireless tether system is described. In one embodiment, one or more wireless tether apparatuses are in wireless communication with one or more base units. A wireless tether apparatus may be configured such that when separated from a base unit greater than a predetermined distance, such a wireless tether apparatus provides information to the user of the wireless tether apparatus to aid a user such as a human, animal, or machine in finding their way back to a desired location. A predetermined distance may be configured to change over time to accommodate different tether distance requirements at different times, e.g., closer to a home location at night and further away from the home location during the day. In one aspect, wireless tether apparatuses and base units communicate using a plurality of different communication modes such that when one mode fails other modes are utilized to reestablish a connection therebetween.

  • Patent number: 7261606
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided to support a plurality of objects such as keys with an inflatable apparatus when the inflatable apparatus is exposed to a body of water. In one embodiment, an inflatable apparatus provides an attachment member such as a key ring to attach objects such as keys to the inflatable apparatus. The inflatable apparatus is capable of inflating from a compact shape to an expanded shape upon contact with water. In the expanded shape, the inflatable apparatus provides sufficient buoyancy to support the objects coupled therewith and float the objects to the surface of the water for retrieval by a user. In situations where the weight of the object exceeds a buoyancy limit, the inflatable apparatus can extend a marker buoy to assist in the retrieval of the objects. In other embodiments, the inflatable apparatus includes a wireless transmit a wireless location signal.

  • Patent number: 6954133
Abstract: A system for increasing transaction security across existing infrastructure is provided. A user bio-metric sensor device is integrated into a credit or debit card. A display unit provides a key, preferably encrypted, upon successful utilization of the sensor device. Included in the key generation mechanism is an indicator of the transaction number or other sequential count indicative of card use. An authorization service decrypts the key in a manner at least partially dependent upon a second sequential count maintained in sync with the first count to determine whether the use is authorized. In one embodiment, a separate credit card reader may be configured to read conventional credit cards, smart cards, and credit cards incorporating such bio-metric sensor devices.

  • Patent number: 6112963
Abstract: An apparatus for carrying and storing sleeping bags and other related items is disclosed having an adjustable enclosure formed by a strap having ends that pass through two substantially parallel tubes attached to, or formed on, the enclosure material. The straps ends have a clip that allows each end to be clipped to the body of the strap to form loops on each end that define the opening of the enclosure. Thereby the enclosure opening is adjustable in size to adapt to fit a single item such as a sleeping bag or combinations of articles to be carried or stored simultaneously.
