  • Patent number: 4533302
Abstract: A rotary fluid pressure device is disclosed of the type including a roller gerotor (17) having a ring member (23) and a plurality of rollers (25) serving as internal teeth. At each end of each roller (25) is a side clearance space (85) and a small amount of lubrication fluid flows from each pressurized volume chamber through the side clearance spaces (85) into an adjacent lubricant recess (81). All of the lubricant recesses (81) are in communication with the fluid-collecting groove (79) and lubrication fluid flows from the groove (79) to the motor lubrication flow path. The lubrication flow path includes flow through a rearward bearing set (35); a forward bearing set (33); a pair of fluid passages (36); the forward splines (37, 39); and the rearward splines (43, 45). The invention results in improved lubrication generally, and of the forward splines in particular.

  • Patent number: 4526257
Abstract: A drive mechanism (26) momentarily reduces the speed of engine-driven accessories in response to vehicle acceleration or increased power demands to improve fuel economy and to provide additional horsepower for the vehicle. The drive mechanism includes an electromagnetic clutch (48) operative, when engaged, to drive the accessories at constant speeds relative to speeds of an engine (10) and a viscous coupling (60) operative, when first engaged, in response to disengagement of the clutch, to first drive the accessories at a minimum speed and then to increase the accessory speeds to minimize shift shocks when the clutch is reengaged. The coupling includes a housing (58) defining an annular compartment (108) containing an annular clutch member (92) and a viscous liquid. A working chamber (113) within the compartment, defined by confronting surfaces of the housing and clutch member, transmits torque from the housing to the clutch member via viscous shear in response to relative rotation therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4527027
Abstract: A contact structure (40, 44; 62, 63) is arranged to provide oppositely directed parallel current paths within a closed loop magnetic flux amplifier (46) to be directly separable under high overload current conditions, the flux amplifier (46) functioning to arrest the movable contact (62, 63) momentum. Manufacturing economies are realized by subassembling the stationary contact structure (40, 42, 44) and flux amplifier (46) and subsequently trapping one end (42a) of that assembly within the base (4a) and securing the other end with a single screw (68). The movable contact arm (62) comprises a plurality of blanked laminations assembled to provide improved contact (63) mounting and bearing (62d) surfaces. The molded case sidewalls are strengthened in the contact separation area by offsetting the parting line (PL) between cover (6) and base (4) closer to the bottom of base (4) and overlapping the thinner base sidewalls with thicker cover sidewalls at the offset (4e, 6e).

  • Patent number: 4525697
Abstract: A thermostat having a low force output, snap-acting thermally responsive bi-metal disc operative through a pushrod to move the blade of an SPDT switch at a pre-selected temperature. The switch has a cantilever blade formed of a unitary thin metal strip having a flexible stem with a first rigid tongue extending therefrom with a heavy current carrying moveable contact thereon for a normally closed contact set. The pushrod contacts the rigid first tongue for switch actuation. A second flexible tongue extends from the stem and has an integral low current normally open contact thereon for a contact set which is closed upon switch blade actuation. Upon further temperature rise, after switch actuation, pushrod over-travel on the first tongue is absorbed by resilient flexing of the stem and second tongue thereby providing a wiping action to the closed low current contact set.
