  • Patent number: 5505257
Abstract: A corrugated fin strip for heat exchanger tubes has interfacing parallelogram shaped fin panels joined by successive parallel crests, all fin panels having the same parallelogram shape selected in accordance with a desired configuration of the heat exchanger. In one embodiment, these parallel crests extend obliquely between the longitudinal edges of a rectilinear metal strip from which the fin strip is formed, and are adapted to be alternatively attached to the flat face of a heat exchanger tube in oblique relation to parallel sides of the tube, thereby defining an air flow direction oblique to the length thereof. In a second embodiment, the successive parallel crests extend perpendicularly to the opposite edges of the rectilinear metal strip, are displaced alternately therefrom by a selected distance, and are adapted to be attached alternately to the opposed flat faces of a pair of longitudinally parallel heat exchanger tubes, thereby displacing one tube transversely from the other.

  • Patent number: 5442338
Abstract: A miniature telltale module which combines a plurality of telltale functions into one unit and provides reduced cost per function. The module uses a miniature rotary actuator, a series of interconnected images and a single light source. The actuator allows a wide tolerances at the inputs while still precisely selecting the image positions. The actuator has a unique locking device (or brake) which automatically engages when power is removed. This feature allows the control circuitry to select an image with a momentary pulse and then remove the power from the actuator. Power consumption is thereby minimized since no power is required by the device except when changing the image to be displayed.

  • Patent number: 5434781
Abstract: A method and apparatus for guiding a driverless vehicle along a path defined by a guide cable carrying a current in a horizontal road surface includes mounting a first coil, having a major coil axis, at +45 degrees relative to the horizontal on said vehicle, mounting a second coil, having a major coil axis, at -45 degrees relative to the horizontal on said vehicle such that the axes of said first and second coils intersect, sensing both the radial and circular field vectors of the electromagnetic field with each coil, comparing the magnitude of the radial vector with the magnitude of the circular vector for each coil whereby the lateral position of the intersection point of the axes of the coils is determined relative to the guide cable to indicate the lateral displacement of the vehicle relative to said path, and using the displacement information in the vehicle steering system.

  • Patent number: 5421485
Abstract: A utensil for dispensing liquid, such as detergent, from a bag set in the utensil which contains the liquid, and bags for use with the utensil. The bag is comprised of a synthetic resin film and is housed in a container body having an opening at its top end. The top end opening of the container body is closed by a cover member to which is attached a liquid delivery element, such as a pump with a nozzle. A suction tube projects downward from the liquid delivery element. The tube is adapted to sealingly pierce the upper surface of the bag set in the container body for communication with the interior of the bag. That portion of the bag which is pierced by the suction tube is formed of a nylon film, or an unstretched nylon film in particular. Therefore, the tube is not liable to be torn when pierced by the tube, and a hole formed by the piercing comes in close contact with the tube.

  • Patent number: 5419035
Abstract: A snap attaching tool for attaching stud and socket type snap assemblies to an edge or intermediate location of a fabric or other carrier material. Separable base, stabilizer and top elements respectively carrying a seat recess with a convex floor, a guide opening and an assembling punch are normally aligned by a base mounted rectangular spindle. The spindle permits relative vertical adjustment of the elements and is removable to allow for attaching snaps at locations distant from the edge of the material. The oblong shape of the elements with arcuate aligned sides promotes easy holding of the tool end distant from the location for striking with a hammer during use.

  • Patent number: 5378051
Abstract: A method for making a brush element for a brush roller wherein bristle bunches formed by folding bristles over bent portions of U-shaped staples have their folded portions and associated staples inserted through tight fitting apertures in a base portion of a frame so that legs of the staples are bent by collision with a facing side of an attachment section of the frame. A hardenable adhesive is then poured into the frame between the base portion and the facing side around the staples and folded portions of the bristle bunches. The adhesive is hardened, bonding the staples in the adhesive and affixing the bristles to the base portion. The adhesive may be a polyurethane-base resin having viscosity allowing absorption of the adhesive between the bristles near their folded portions, the tight fit of the bristles in the apertures holding them in place during pouring and hardening of the adhesive.
