Abstract: A liquid level gauge consists of two main cells comprising a measuring electrode, a compensation electrode and their respective counter electrodes. Circuitry is provided to determine the conductance of the liquid in each cell. Further circuitry is provided to calculate the quotient of the respective cell conductances, which is indicative of the liquid level. The surface areas of the measuring and compensating electrodes are kept equal, but the distance between the measuring electrode and its counter electrode increases linearly, while the distance between the compensation electrode and its counter electrode is constant.
Abstract: A tool has outer gripping jaws 12, 19 to grip a cable 20, and inner jaws with cutting edges 30 which penetrate the cable. The inner jaws are initially located for sheath penetration and are then displaced axially to strip the cut portion of the sheath of the core of the cable. In the axial movement the inner jaws are guided along tracks on the adjacent faces of the outer jaws and at least one of these tracks 100 is relieved at 102 so that during the axial movement the cutting jaws separate. This enables the tool to operate satisfactory even when the jaws converge towards the axis on which they are pivoted.

Abstract: Envelopes are fed in a mutually overlapping state one by one toward a stopper provided at the front side of a transfer conveyor. Upon abutment with the stopper the envelopes pile up so as to be temporarily stored. An envelope feeder device is provided so as to enable a large number of envelopes to pile up. The envelope feeder device includes a body which is adjustably supported from a support shaft above the transfer conveyor, so as to position the feeder device according to the size of the envelopes. A pair of first rollers are mounted to both sides of the body and positioned so as to roll upon the upper surface of the transfer conveyor. Each first roller includes a rotary member mounted eccentrically on its side. A bifurcated feed member engages with the eccentric rotatable members so as to reciprocate horizontally as by the rotational movement of the first rollers, whereby assisting in the piling up of the envelopes as by a pair of claws located at the free ends of the bifurcated portions.
Abstract: A stripping tool particularly for fibre optic cables has flexible and resilient jaws carrying blades to contact the conductor, and when excess pressure is applied to close the blades on the conductor, the jaws can flex. This minimizes the risk of conductor damage and further, allows particularly high loading per unit area to be achieved when the blades tilt so that only the heel of each blade contacts the conductor.
Abstract: The invention relates to apparatus for inflating a continuously moving length of tubular material, in which the nozzle tube is rotatable and an arrangement is provided which locks the nozzle tube in an angular position in which the nozzle is in contact with the length of material during the discharge of gas from the nozzle. Such apparatus is distinguished during the greater part of the production time by a considerable reduction in the friction between the length of material and the nozzle tube.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and to apparatus for washing material wound on a beam, in which from the time at which a specific degree of cleanness has been reached in the central region of the roll length until the end of the washing process the proportion of the washing fluid coming out of the central region of the roll length is returned directly to the beam. In this way water and energy can be saved on a considerable scale.

This filter is remarkably effective in adsorbing tar and nicotine, harmful materials of the particle phase component of tobacco smoke and can remove harmful materials of gas phase, making the smoke taste light and mild, and also remove carcinogens such as 3,4-benzopyrene.
Abstract: In a casting mould and cooling unit for use in the continuous casting of molten metal, the layers of lubricious, non-wetting material such as graphite (12) bounding the solidification chamber (10) of the mould are secured to the copper cooling jacket walls (14) through the agency of interfitting ribs and grooves (18,20) and a layer (22) of bonding material so as to afford good thermal conduction between the layers (12) and walls (14) even if a gap develops at the interface. The interfitting ribs and grooves are so shaped that each wall (14) and the corresponding layer (12) can be assembled by bringing them together facewise on. At least some of the grooves (20) are of re-entrant form to provide a mechanical key so as to reduce the possibility of a gap developing at the interface.
Abstract: An electrode holder clamps the electrode 11 in two perpendicular directions by clamp members 33 and 40. Each clamp member slidably rests on base seat 16 which has side portions 17 and 18 that extend at right angles to each other. Clamp screws 60 and 63 along with serrated engaging faces 48 and 54 and engaging members 47 and 53 allow clamp members 33 and 40 to be positioned finely, thereby accurately positioning the electrode 11. Because the respective clamp faces 37 and 44 of the clamp members 33 and 40 are formed to fit each other, even a small-diameter electrode can easily be clamped into position.
Abstract: The invention relates to a tensioning chain provided with grippers in which the gripper body is made from cast spheroidal graphite or high-grade cast steel, the arms for pivot mounting of the gripper flap run at an angle upwards, the angle between the two arms of the gripper flap is kept small and the ratio of length to diameter of the link pins is between 1:0.9 and 1:1.5. Such a gripper is distinguished in particular by a particularly low overall height.
Abstract: The invention relates to apparatus for determining the timewise progress of the drying of a damp material sample. Such apparatus facilitates automatic determination of the drying progress curve.
Abstract: A gauge for measuring the height of a liquid in a vessel comprises a measuring electrode (M) and a compensation electrode (R) in the vessel, and a circuit which measures the capacitance C.sub.M of the measuring electrode and the capacitance C.sub.R of the compensation electrode, each with respect to a wall of the vessel as counter-electrode, using the liquid in the vessel as dielectric. The quotient C.sub.M /C.sub.R varies with the height of the liquid in the vessel. The measuring electrode and the compensation electrode are parallel and of the same length, but differ in surface area and shape to such extent that such quotient varies as a linear function of the height of the liquid in the vessel.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for the automatic lubrication of the links of continuously moving material transport chains in a tensioning machine. The supply of lubricant is switched on and off for the duration of at least one complete circuit of the transport chain as a function both of the speed at which the chain goes round and the prevailing temperature in the tensioning machine, while an pulse count signal which is proportional to the speed at which the chain goes round and is used to control the supply of lubricant is multiplied by a multiplication factor formed from an actual value for the temperature, so that optimum lubrication of the chain links is provided.
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a cooling/guiding method and a cooling/guiding apparatus that will be used when a film of a thermoplastic synthetic resin or the like is to be produced by the inflation method or the T-die method.According to the invention, a thermoplastic synthetic resin film is continuously passed through a section constituted by a single or a plurality of air-introducing members having air intake ports, the air surrounding said film is vacuumed by said air-introducing members so that the pressure differential imparted to the film is balanced, and the film is guided into a predetermined path under the condition where the film is separated away from the air-introducing members. Therefore, the apparatus cools and guides the film without coming into contact thereto, and without cooling the film irregularly and without marring the film, making it possible to markedly increase the film-forming speed and quality of the film.
Abstract: A cooling and guiding device for continuous tubular thermoplastic synthetic resin films comprises a support ring, and another ring which is vertically spaced from the support ring, one of the rings being rotatable relative to the other; each of a plurality of flexible conduits has one end connected to the support ring and its other end connected to the other ring, and each has a gas connection to a source of gas under pressure. The rings and conduits form an envelope the minimum diameter of which can be adjusted by relative rotation of the rings to accommodate a tubular film passing through the envelope; and each of the conduits has a series of orifices extending throughout the length of the conduit and arranged to direct gas jets against the exterior of such a tubular film to cool the film and to prevent the film from coming in contact with the envelope.

Abstract: Integrated circuit components are loaded in Indian file in carrier tube and retained in position by headed pin at each end of the tube. The invention provides a spring bale to locate the tube in position on a support pillar, along which the tubes are fed under gravity, the spring bale providing a cam track for automatic engagement with a pin head so as to displace the pin to a position in which the chips can feed as the tube is assembled to the pillar without requiring any separate manipulative action.
Abstract: The present invention provides composite material compositions using waste synthetic fiber released from fiber-related factories or general households. In an embodiment of the present invention, a thermoplastic synthetic resin may be incorporated with plasticizer(s), lubricant(s), and other additive(s), the mixture being molten and then kneaded with waste synthetic fiber which had been fibrillated into filaments, whereby said waste synthetic fiber is impregnated with the molten resin liquid to form a composite material composition. The present invention can thus provide inexpensive composite material compositions having excellent mechanical properties by making use of waste synthetic fiber which has been junked as waste so far, and lessening the rate of use of synthetic resins.
