  • Patent number: 4047107
Abstract: A security system comprises electronic means for generating a group of pulses of predetermined frequency, which group has a unique identity specified by the particular durations of its constituent pulses; means for transmitting that group of pulses; means for receiving that group of pulses; and means responsive to that received group of pulses only when it has said unique identity. Preferably the pulses are bursts of high frequency waves, and the means responsive to received pulses includes means for establishing tolerance intervals for the ends of corresponding pulses.

  • Patent number: 4046700
Abstract: An improved scraper to scrape the sludge from the bottom of a clarifying tank in a biological waste treatment plant. The scraper is Y-shaped, having two angularly spaced blades which move under the sludge at such an angle as to lift the sludge onto the blade such that the sludge urges the scraper in wiping relation with the bottom of the tank. The scraper is suspended by flexible cables from support arms which extend outwardly from an oscillating bridge moveable over the top of the clarifier in the clarifier tank drawing the flexible cables over support rollers as the bridge approaches the partition to lift the scraper upwardly as the scraper approaches the partition to prevent sludge from being trapped against the partition.

  • Patent number: 4045282
Abstract: Thermal monitoring of a reactor core is carried out by utilizng coolant temperatures detected at the outlets of a plurality of fuel assemblies. The mean value of the "hot" and "cold" core outlet temperatures and the difference between these latter are established at each instant. An analog signal corresponding to the temperature difference between the coolant temperature at the outlet of said assembly and the mean core outlet temperature is delivered in respect of each fuel assembly. The signal is processed in order to initiate the appropriate safety actions.

  • Patent number: 4045215
Abstract: Nickel-containing mattes are desulphurized down to low sulphur levels (less than 1%) in a multi-stage process effected in a single converter vessel. In the first stage, an oxidizing gas is blown into the molten matte to reduce the sulphur level to about 4 to 7% and in one or more subsequent stages, oxygen and a diluent are blown into the matte, with a peripheral flow of protective fluid to protect the tuyeres against wear. The diluent, which may be argon or steam for example, dilutes the sulphur dioxide in the matte.

  • Patent number: 4040509
Abstract: Motor rotated cams each actuate a lever and each lever is connected by a flexible non-extensible member, cable or chain, to the element of the machine to be controlled. A spring loaded bell crank lever is provided for each flexible non-extensible member and the non-extensible member passes over a pulley mounted at one end of an arm of the bell crank lever. Each arm of the bell crank lever actuates an electric switch connected to a motor whereby if the tension in the flexible non-extensible member increases or decreases excessively the appropriate one of the switches is opened to stop the motor.

  • Patent number: 4040280
Abstract: This invention is concerned with permutation locks having a wheel pack comprising a plurality of rotatable permutation discs, each having a recess which must be correctly aligned before the bolt of the lock can be withdrawn. One known method for determining the positions of the permutation discs is by analysis of X-radiation which has passed through the wheel pack parallel to the axis of rotation of the discs. In locks according to this invention, the opacity of the wheel pack to penetrating electromagnetic radiation along any line parallel to the axis of rotation of the discs is independent of their orientation.

  • Patent number: 4038744
Abstract: A method of fabricating a carrier support for integrated circuit chips to be mounted subsequently on a substrate. A flexible strip of an inextensible insulating material is provided with equidistant openings in the center of each of which a chip is to be mounted. One of the faces of this strip is covered with a conductive film, the said film is cut away to form in each opening interface conductors which overhang towards the center of the opening. Before the conductive film is cut away, the film is coated with a layer of photosensitive lacquer which is partly removed to enable the film to be laid bare in regions which, in each opening, form part of an open-centered zone which surrounds that portion of the film in which the free inner ends of the interface conductors associated with this opening are to be produced.
