Abstract: A composition of a silica-containing material and an additive of organic and inorganic materials which decomposes to generate gases at low temperatures is disclosed along with a method of making a lightweight aggregate from the composition.
Abstract: A filter for liquids capable of containing a gas including a chamber for through-passage of a gas-charged liquid and which is subdivided into an upstream compartment and a downstream compartment by a filtering element, preferably in the form of a cylindrical strainer with a solid bottom, a liquid-supply pipeline opening into said upstream compartment, a liquid-outlet pipeline issuing from said downstream compartment, and an auxiliary conduit for exhaustion of gas directly communicating between said liquid-outlet pipeline and the upper part of said downstream compartment.
Abstract: A textile machine incorporates a crank and a connecting rod which carries a mass of such value and so positioned that the moment of inertia of the connecting rod about the axis of the crank pin introduces inertial variations which are opposed to and of absolute values at least equal to the inertial variations due to the combined sley and weft inserter mechanisms as well as their controls. The invention is especially applicable to the regularization of the running of looms with stiff weft inserters.

Abstract: An improved can lid of the type including a gate structure defining a normally closed aperture so as to facilitate removal of the contents of the can is disclosed. The lid is constructed from a continuous blank of a sheet metal member which is drawn and shaped to provide an aperture in the surface of the member as well as a gate panel underneath the aperture normally closing same. The surface of the sheet metal member is underfolded about only a portion of the periphery of the aperture as a 180.degree. outward underfold to form a narrow spacer strip at the underside of the lid about the underfolded portion of the periphery of the aperture. The sheet metal member is then infolded about the outer edge of the spacer strip as a 180.degree. inward underfold to continuously merge into the metal sheet portion constituting the gate panel. In conventional fashion, a score line is cut about the edge of the gate panel adjacent to the 180.degree.
Abstract: A process and printer are described for the rapid printing of documents, wherein the paper is continuously moved in front of static pinpoint printing heads covering the entire section of the printing surface, transverse to the direction of movement of the paper, and the printing heads are controlled by coded pulses. The printed document is legible by the naked eye and at the same time directly assimilable by machine. Certain characters may be selected, and simultaneously printed on the documents. Printing may be done by electric-spark perforation of an opaque conductive support tape, and thereafter examined by observation in transparency of the illuminated perforations.
