  • Patent number: 8279782
Abstract: The present invention provides systems and methods for the assignment of a plurality of processors to a plurality of data servers. An exemplary embodiment of the present invention provides systems and methods for addressing the problem of transmitter/receiver assignment for softer handoff in CDMA systems as well as any other system that requires variable size allocation of processors in a resource sharing environment. An exemplary embodiment of a system for processing data received from data servers according to the present invention comprises a shared medium, a plurality of processors and a smaller plurality of intermediate nodes partitioned into K sets, wherein at the kth set, every “k” processors are associated with one intermediate node. The shared medium couples the data servers to the intermediate nodes.

  • Patent number: 8204063
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting an IP packet between first and second remotely located IP end devices via a network operating under OSI. An IP interface is overlaid over OSI in the routers that are directly connected to the IP devices. These routers act as gateways, communicating with each other using OSI but able to convey IP information to the first and second IP devices via the overlaid IP interface.

  • Patent number: 7921326
Abstract: A spatial monitoring-correlation mechanism and a method are described herein for determining an origin of a problem within an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) network by using topology information about the IPTV network and at least one error notification (e.g., packet loss notification-retransmission request) that is generated by at least one component (e.g., set-top box) within the IPTV network.

  • Patent number: 7903586
Abstract: In an embodiment, a method is disclosed for operating a network having a group of bridges connected together to form a ring, each bridge having two ports assigned to the ring to form a group of ring ports. The claimed embodiment includes forwarding information through the ring according to one or more spanning tree instances, each instance designating one of the group of ring ports as a respective alternate port that is in a state of discarding. Responsive to learning of a failure by a bridge within the ring, a determination is made, for each spanning tree instance, whether the bridge contains a respective alternate port and if the bridge contains a respective alternate port, changing the state of the respective alternate port to forwarding.

  • Patent number: 7872991
Abstract: Methods and systems for forwarding packets over Label Switched Paths (LSPs) in a Virtual Private Network (VPN) are implemented within a Layer-2 architecture. A system includes a number of multi-purpose nodes connected by a number of multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) LSP links. Each multi-purpose node contains at least one bridging module (BM) that runs an extension of a bridging protocol (BP) contained in the IEEE 802.1d standard. The BP is used to establish MPLS LSPs between the BMs. The BP then generates a spanning tree using a spanning tree program to establish an optimal number of active LSPs. The remaining LSPs are then set to “inactive” The BM de-allocates the resources assigned to inactive LSPs and makes the resources available to other active LSPs.

  • Patent number: 7870462
Abstract: Error bursts are randomized by an interleaver which makes use of “set leaders” to generate permutation indices. The permutation indices are used to route bits from initial positions in an input bit stream to re-arranged or randomized positions in an output bit stream. When the output bit stream is then transmitted and subsequently received by a de-interleaver which returns the received bits to their initial, pre-randomized positions, the resulting received signal has an acceptable bit error rate.

  • Patent number: 7843845
Abstract: A diagnostic tool and method are described herein that are capable of diagnosing and localizing a multicast connectivity flow fault within a layer 2 aggregation network. In one application, the diagnostic tool and method can be used by a customer service representative to diagnose why a customer cannot receive a television channel even though they can receive other television channels within an IPTV network.

  • Patent number: 7826378
Abstract: A passive optical network (PON) access network connected to an external data network can be tested using a remote test host operating on the external data network by looping test data from the test host through the PON to an Optical Network Terminator (ONT), through a data path between an ONT test port and an ONT user port, and back through the PON to the test host. Data tunneling is used to route the data through the external data network between the test host and the PON Optical Line Terminal (OLT). The invention can be used to emulate downstream as well as upstream PON traffic for remote diagnostic testing or other purposes.

  • Patent number: 7764624
Abstract: The present invention provides techniques for preventing protocol stalling. A control platform is adapted to generate a predetermined time period, wherein the predetermined time period is reset when an acknowledgement signal is received. The control platform is further adapted to examine stored packets to detect new or negatively acknowledged packets. A transmission platform is adapted to transmit an earliest transmitted packet after the predetermined time period expires when no new or negatively acknowledged packets are detected.

  • Patent number: 7673068
Abstract: A network node is described herein which ensures that whenever an ingress station (e.g., PC) communicates a special MAC DA packet then that packet's copies are forwarded (via a high availability VLAN) to its port(s) that are associated with remote network node(s) and/or egress server(s) (e.g., firewall(s)) and not forwarded to its port(s) that are associated with data storage server(s) or ingress station(s) (e.g., PCs). The network node also ensures that whenever an ingress station (e.g., PC) communicates a normal MAC DA packet then that packet's copies are forwarded to all of its port(s) that are associated with ingress station(s), remote network node(s), egress server(s) and/or data storage server(s) so that these stations/servers can maintain their connectivity via a default VLAN.
