  • Patent number: 6314655
Abstract: The ball sizing device has an angularly disposed support which defines a square-shaped space for receiving a dimpled golf ball. The two lowermost walls defining the space receive the ball in point-to-point contact. Each of the two opposite walls has a gauge mounted thereon with a spring loaded pin for engaging the ball in point-to-point contact. Each gauge serves to measure a deviation of the diameter of a ball from a standard diameter. The readings from the gauges are processed in a central processing unit in order to obtain a statistical average of the diameter of the ball. A standardizing cylinder is separately mounted on the sizing device in order to calibrate the two gauges to a zero reading and to provide a standard diameter value to the central processing unit.

  • Patent number: 6317025
Abstract: Locks for the transportation industry are programmable with a keypad and with handheld activators, the activators being programmable by a central system and activators via IR transmitters and receivers. Operator PIN numbers and access codes manifesting the supervisory level of authority are encoded in each lock which are programmed to open a given number of times in a given time period with or without entry of a code and include a lockout feature for disabling the lock in case of invalid code entry. Each lock has a log history containing the number of complete and incomplete opening transactions, when they occurred and the operator codes associated therewith. The locks are opened by IR transmission of the appropriate codes or by keypad entries. One or more individuals at different levels of authority may open one or more locks in a given time frame a given number of times. Each lock records its transaction history which is displayed and downloaded for system evaluation.

  • Patent number: 6308840
Abstract: A golf club holder suspends golf clubs beneath an umbrella to keep the grips dry during rain. The holder comprises a head with clip devices for attachment to an umbrella shank and for attaching the shafts of clubs upside down to the holder. The clip devices comprise in one embodiment a molded plastic head with receptacles for attachment to the umbrella shank and for receiving the club shafts, the receptacles each comprising a bore lined with high friction rubber and a slot for receiving the shank or shafts laterally into the receptacle. A stem extends from the head to provide enhanced gripping action to the umbrella shank. The devices may be hinged to the stem to permit the holder to remain with the umbrella shank so that the umbrella may be collapsed with the holder attached. The holder stem may be permanently attached to the umbrella shank with the shaft clip devices hinged to the stem.

  • Patent number: 6306016
Abstract: The notch polishing machine employs a plurality of polishing tapes which can be sequentially introduced into the notch of a wafer to polish both sides of the notch, i.e. the top and bottom surfaces. Each tape is pulled off a supply reel and passed into a mounting block sized to fit into the wafer notch. Each block is also mounted to be oscillated to effect a polishing action. Also, all the blocks are mounted in common to be pivoted between a position angularly disposed relative to the top of the top of the wafer and a position angularly disposed relative to the bottom of the wafer.

  • Patent number: 6289791
Abstract: The piston is provided with a hollow space in which a head member for a piston rod is mounted. A disc is provided within the piston for seating of the head member via mating concave/convex surfaces and a separate support ring is disposed under a flange of the head member with mating concave/convex surfaces therebetween. An annular clamping member serves to secure the disc ring and head member together and also abuts against an internal shoulder within the piston. Eccentric loadings on the piston are compensated by tilting movements between the head member and piston in a self-adjusting manner.

  • Patent number: 6283362
Abstract: A composite letterhead/envelope form is provided which can be fed through a printer for imaging both the letterhead and the envelope in one pass. The form includes a letterhead of substantially a standard size which is releasably attached to a flap of a separately fabricated envelope. After imaging, the letterhead is readily removed from the envelope, folded, and then stuffed into the pocket of the envelope. A flap of the envelope seals the pocket of the envelope. The letterhead may be of heavier stock than the envelope.

  • Patent number: 6277340
Abstract: A low pressure drop, highly efficient structured packing comprises sheet material formed into vertical preferably square channels containing vortex generators formed from the sheet material. The channels, while vertically linear, are periodically interrupted by the vortex generators providing tortuous fluid paths along the channels. The thus formed vortex generators form openings between adjacent channels providing fluid communication between and uniform flow within the different channels. The packing can be utilized in fluid mixing or those operations that require multiphase mass transfer, such as absorption or distillation. The addition of a catalyst makes the structure suitable for catalytic distillation. Turbulence is provided the fluids by the tortuous vertical path with low pressure drops transversely and vertically, with optimum liquid holdup.

  • Patent number: 6261264
Abstract: A safety needle cap assembly for needles automatically caps the used needle the instant the needle is withdrawn from a patient. An elastic compressible sheath is attached to a safety needle cup shaped cap and is under compression with the cap in a retracted position exposing the needle tip for use. The cap is restrained in a rearward needle exposed state by one or more extension members extending rearwardly from the cap over the syringe hub. The extension may be a thin film, a string, a flexible rod or an articulated rod which are pressed against the hub by an outer packaging enclosure to retain the cap in the needle exposed state during shipping and handling prior to use. During removal of the enclosure for use of the needle, the extension is then pressed against the hub by the user in one embodiment, or a syringe grip or catheter body in other embodiments, holding the needle exposed ready for use.

  • Patent number: 6256652
Abstract: A method and corresponding apparatus for compressing a binary code includes converting an initial flow of data through serial multiplication of values of bits of a signal to be coded, receiving an a coding function, and summing all products of the serial multiplication for a predetermined period of time. The method further provides that discrete values of the coding function are used as the coding function, the coding function is a piecewise continuous function in a form of a Gaussian pulse with a frequency fill, computations of a Duamel sequence are used during conversion of the code, and the initial data and discrete values of the coding function are used as arguments of the sequence.
