Abstract: Novel compounds having the structural formula ##STR1## in which R is H or agriculturally acceptable salts thereof, or C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl and R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are hydrogen or C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl, alkoxy or carbalkoxy, halogen, thiocyano, hydroxy, phenoxy, methylenedioxy or methylthio are useful as plant growth regulators, particularly to increase fruit set with minimum deformative side effects.
Abstract: A novel class of compounds which are useful as plant growth regulators is disclosed, having the general structural formula: ##STR1## R.sup.1 is; C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl, nitro or halo and n is zero or an integer from 1 to 4R.sup.2 is; C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl, or benzyl, n' is zero, 1 or 2 andAr is; naphthyl, phenyl or phenyl bearing thereon from one to three of the substituents: cyano, benzyloxy, nitro, bromo, chloro, trifluoromethyl and C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl, alkenyl, alkoxy alkylthio and alkyl-substituted amino.
Abstract: In the manufacture of an N-benzyl-N-isopropyl amide by reaction of N-benzyl-N-isopropylamine with an acid chloride, the amide product is obtained in better purity and yield by employing excess benzylisopropylamine as the acid accepting agent and recovering the amine for re-use by reacting the amine hydrochloride by-product with aqueous sodium hydroxide.
Abstract: A new substance which is useful as a plant growth regulator is 3-imino-2-(1-methyl-3-phenylthioureido)isoindolin-1-one, which may also exist in tautomeric form as 1-(2-cyanobenzoyl)-2-methyl-4-phenylthiosemicarbazide. Formative effects and increased fruit set are obtained by application of the growth regulator to crop plants.

Abstract: A method of regulating the growth of plants, including combating unwanted vegetation, comprises applying to the plants, either on seed, the soil or directly on the plants an effective amount of a novel compound of the class having the general structural formula ##STR1## in which one of Q.sub.1, Q.sub.2, Q.sub.3 or Q.sub.4 is N, X is --OH or --O--(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl) and Y is H or X and Y together represent a bond between carbon and nitrogen atoms and R is H or one or two of the following substituents: --Br, --Cl, --F, --I, --CF.sub.3, --CH.sub.3, --NO.sub.2 or --C.tbd.N, or an agriculturally acceptable salt thereof.
