These therapeutic drugs, agents or compounds may also further reduce a biological organism's reaction to the introduction of the medical device to the organism. In addition, these therapeutic drugs, agents and/or compounds may be utilized to promote healing, including the formation of blood clots. Also, the devices may be modified to promote endothelialization. Various materials and coating methodologies may be utilized to maintain the drugs, agents or compounds on the medical device until delivered and positioned.

    Abstract: An expandable medical device includes a plurality of elongated struts, forming a substantially cylindrical device which is expandable from a first diameter to a second diameter. A plurality of different beneficial agents may be loaded into different openings within the struts for delivery to the tissue. For treatment of conditions such as restenosis, different agents are loaded into different openings in the device to address different biological processes involved in restenosis and are delivered at different release kinetics matched to the biological process treated. The different agents may also be used to address different diseases from the same drug delivery device. In addition, anti-thrombotic agents may be affixed to at least a portion of the surfaces of the medical device for the prevention of sub-acute thrombosis. To ensure that the different agents remain affixed to the device as well as to each other, primer layers may be utilized.

    Abstract: A stent having marker tabs formed from a micro-alloyed combination of materials provides for more precise placement and post-procedural visualization in a vessel, by increasing the radiopacity of the stent under X-ray fluoroscopy. A unique micro-alloying process is utilized to form the tabs, comprising a first alloy and a second alloy, wherein one of these alloys is radiopaque. This substantially eliminates the possibility of galvanic action between the tab and the stent. This process is also applicable to other medical devices.

    Abstract: A long term oxygen therapy system having an oxygen supply directly linked with a patient's lung or lungs may be utilized to more efficiently treat hypoxia caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis. The system includes an oxygen source, one or more valves and fluid carrying conduits. The fluid carrying conduits link the oxygen source to diseased sites within the patient's lungs. A collateral ventilation bypass trap system directly linked with a patient's lung or lungs may be utilized to increase the expiratory flow from the diseased lung or lungs, thereby treating another aspect of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The system includes a trap, a filter/one-way valve and an air carrying conduit.

    Abstract: Scaled multiple function non-linear FM waveforms are generated for use in digitally implemented low frequency radar. The non-linear FM waveforms are generated by combining a plurality of functions, each having varying characteristics, to form a single waveform which has the desirable characteristics of weighted linear FM waveforms without the undesirable attributes due to weighting. Accordingly, the use of the non-linear FM waveform results in an increase in detection range of eight percent over existing linear FM waveforms with no degradation in range resolution.

    Abstract: An optical electronic multiplexing reflection sensor system for a plurality of Bragg sensors connected in series spaced relation in a plurality of single mode fiber optic cable buses. In each of the buses a unique address is provided each sensor function by wavelength selection. Each of a plurality of monochromators is coupled to a corresponding one of the buses and has a control connected to it for controlling the operation of the monochromator. A tunable laser source is coupled to each of the buses. A wavelength sweep generator is coupled to the laser source and provides outputs to the controls of the monochromators. Each of a plurality of photodetector receivers receives the output of a corresponding one of the monochromators and each has an output providing output signals indicating individual wavelengths of the Bragg sensors coupled to it. Each if a plurality of analog to digital converters is connected to the output of a corresponding one of the photodetector receivers.
