    Abstract: A method is disclosed of extracting independent spectral image records from an imagewise exposed photographic element that contains superimposed silver halide exposure recording layer units each containing a latent image derived from a selected region of the spectrum. The photographic element contains N+1 superimposed silver halide exposure recording units. Photographic processing is conducted to produce a silver image in N+1 of the exposure recording units and a dye image distinguishable from other dye images in at least N exposure recording layer units. The photographic element is in one instance scanned in a spectral region of silver absorption and minimal image dye absorption to provide a first image density record, and the photographic element is also in N spectral regions wherein maximum density of a different image dye occurs to provide N additional image density records.

    Abstract: Radiographic elements are disclosed each containing a support and, coated on the support, at least two high tabularity tabular grain emulsions. The tabular grains coated on the support exhibit a face centered cubic crystal lattice structure formed by silver bromide with a selected portion of the tabular grains additionally containing iodide substantially uniformly distributed through the crystal lattice structure in an overall concentration of at least 0.5 mole percent with the iodide concentration at any one grain site being less than 5 mole percent. The proportion of the tabular grains selected to contain iodide as well as the distribution of iodide within the tabular grains results in a reduction in pressure induced variance of radiographic imaging response as a function of applied pressure, such as that inadvertently applied during film handling and processing.

The incorporation of the transition metal ion dopant and at least one organic ligand into the cubic crystal lattice of the silver halide grains can be used to improve photographic performance.

The three emulsion layers each differ in speed from the next adjacent of the emulsion layers, with the fastest of the emulsion layers being located nearest the source of exposing radiation and being at least one half stop faster than the next adjacent layer and the slowest of the emulsion layers being located farthest from the source of exposing radiation and being at least one half stop slower than the next adjacent layer. The three emulsions layers are each tabular grain emulsion layers with tabularities of greater than 25.

No more than one of the tabular grain emulsions exhibits a mean tabular grain thickness of less than 0.07 micrometers, and each of tile remaining tabular grain emulsions exhibit a coefficient of variation of tabular grain thickness of less than 15 percent. The mean tabular grain thickness of emulsions for recording imagewise exposure to different regions of the visible spectrum differs by at least 0.02 micrometer.
