  • Patent number: 8319481
Abstract: An apparatus and method generate electric current within a specified frequency range from a rotor operating within a broad range of rotational speeds by reducing the number of poles of the generator at higher rotational speeds. At higher rotational speeds, the generator circuit is altered so that a flow of current through half of a plurality of windings is reversed and the polarity in the said half of the windings is reversed. Two adjacent windings with the same polarity create a single pseudo pole, which effectively reduces the number of poles in the generator by half, and reduces the frequency of the electric current produced by the generator. Thus, the generator is operable to produce current within a specified frequency range from a rotor operating within a broad range of rotational speeds.

  • Patent number: 8313280
Abstract: (A1) A turbofan engine control system is provided for managing a fan operating line. The engine (10) includes a spool having a turbine housed in a core nacelle (12). A turbofan (20) is coupled to the spool (14). A fan nacelle (34) surrounds the turbofan and core nacelle and provides a bypass flow path having a nozzle exit area (40). A controller (50) is programmed to effectively change the nozzle exit area in response to an undesired turbofan stability margin which may result in a stall or flutter condition. In one example, the physical nozzle exit area is increased at the undesired stability condition in which the airflow into the engine creates a destabilizing pressure gradient at the inlet side of the turbofan. A turbofan pressure ratio, turbofan pressure gradient, low spool speed and throttle position are monitored to determine the undesired turbofan stability margin.

  • Patent number: 8313042
Abstract: A gas dynamic spray unit is provided that includes gun housing halves secured about a heater assembly. The heater assembly is retained within the gun housing using locating features provided on the heater assembly and the gun housing. An outlet fitting is secured to the heater assembly and supports a nozzle having a venturi that accelerates a carrier gas. The carrier gas is supplied to the nozzle by a passageway. A powder feed passage communicates with the nozzle to provide powdered material to the accelerated carrier gas, which is expelled from a tube. The passageway includes an aperture for leaking carrier gas inside the gun housing to pressurize the gun housing and prevent powdered material from infiltrating the gun housing. A shroud is secured to the gun housing about the tube to prevent damage to the tube and protect the user from contacting the hot nozzle and tube.

  • Patent number: 8316338
Abstract: A method of simplifying a combinational circuit establishes an initial combinational circuit operable to calculate a set of target signals. A quantity of multiplication operations performed in a first portion of the initial combinational circuit is reduced to create a first, simplified combinational circuit. The first portion includes only multiplication operations and addition operations. A quantity of addition operations performed in a second portion of the first, simplified combinational circuit is reduced to create a second, simplified combinational circuit. The second portion includes only addition operations. Also, the second, simplified combinational circuit is operable to calculate the target signals using fewer operations than the initial combinational circuit.
