Patent number: 5911243Abstract: A serviceable multiport conversion system for a conventional butterfly valve includes two fittings. A first "T" fitting contains two passageways which join at an internal common bore adjacent a separating wall, the wall defining a secondary seat of the multiport valve. Circumscribing the common bore is an annular flange. A second fitting may be a similar "T" fitting or an "L" fitting. The "L" fitting contains a single passageway which terminates at an internal bore circumscribed an annular flange. In use, the butterfly valve is removably positioned in sealing engagement between two fittings, with the flanges releasably attached and the inner diameters of the flanges co-extensive with the butterfly valve bore. When a butterfly valve is positioned between an "L" fitting and a "T" fitting and the valve is in its closed position, there is no fluid communication between the passageway of the "L" fitting and the passageways of the "T" fitting.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 1997Date of Patent: June 15, 1999Assignee: Univalve LLCInventor: Joseph D. Patent number: 5882531Abstract: A water filtration technique is designed to maximize the efficient performance of a variety of granular filtration media. The technique maintains the granular filtration media in a compacted state between a perforated outer media container and a perforated inner media container, where the perforated inner media container is a smaller similitude of the perforated outer media container. In the preferred embodiment of the filtration device of the present invention, the perforated outer and inner media containers are substantially spherical. By maintaining the granular filtration media in a static-state throughout filtration, highly efficient filtration is achieved. In contrast, during the backwash function, the normal inward flow is reversed to outward radial flow and granular filtration media is agitated, fluidized and quickly and vigorously cleaned. A plurality of high-velocity centrally-located water jets create the outward radial flow during backwashing.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1996Date of Patent: March 16, 1999Assignee: Performance Pool Products, Ltd.Inventor: Joseph D. Patent number: 5875451Abstract: A computer system with a hybrid main memory which includes both EDRAM and DRAM, with a DRAM cache provided within a designated portion of the EDRAM portion of the main memory. Read requests are handled by copying data being read from DRAM into a cache portion of EDRAM under the direction of a pseudo cache controller and decoder which converts the DRAM address to a EDRAM address corresponding to the cache location of EDRAM. Read "hit" requests are responded to by reading data directly from the cache portion of EDRAM. Write requests to DRAM are, for purposes of cache coherency when a copy of the address being written to is present in the EDRAM cache portion, accomplished by writing data both to DRAM and overwriting the stale data existing in the cache portion of EDRAM.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 1996Date of Patent: February 23, 1999Assignee: Enhanced Memory Systems, Inc.Inventor: James Dean Joseph

Patent number: 5848435Abstract: An address protection circuit (APC) for cross-checking the integrity of requests to read or write an addressable system memory in a fault-tolerant computer system. In a check mode, the APC checks each address and a source identification code of each memory access request from an address source. The source identification code and current bus address are compared to a range of addresses stored in the APC. If the current bus address is within an "authorized" range, access to that range of locations in the memory is allowed to the address source. If a current memory access request is not authorized, the APC asserts an error signal which may be used to transfer control to a redundant subsystem. The APC contains a content-addressable memory element that can be initialized by a subsystem processor with address ranges and type of access (e.g., read or write) allowed for each source. To enter the setup mode, the APC must first be addressed to switch the APC from its check mode.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1995Date of Patent: December 8, 1998Assignee: EMC CorporationInventors: William Alexander Brant, Edde Tin-Shek Tang
