  • Patent number: 6386298
Abstract: A hole opener and method for using same which allows for a greater number of cone utters to be attached to the hole opener. The support structure provided by the present invention uses a barrel which is attached to the drill stem to effectively increase the diameter of the drill stem so that additional cutters may be attached to the hole opener. Using the barrel structure, the structural integrity of the tool is not compromised, and a strong support structure for the cutters is provided. The cone cutters may be removable from the barrel. The removable structure is provided by placing a bolt inside the segments which is used to mate the segment with a pocket attached to the barrel. This results in a very versatile tool in that the same boring head may be used for boring various types of materials. The barrel structure of the present invention also provides a means for trapping cones inside the barrel to prevent the cone cutters from being left inside the hole.

  • Patent number: 6367033
Abstract: A logic analyzer or a bus analyzer may be used to capture data from a source computer system to diagnose a problem arising in the source computer system. In many cases the problem can be traced to a particular hardware/software subsystem. Quite often, a customer of the manufacturer of the hardware/software subsystem maintains the source computer system. In the manufacturer's facilities is a reference system operated by a technician or engineer responsible to test and support the hardware/software subsystem. The source computer system and the reference system thus may involve different hardware and software configurations and possibly even different operating systems. The present invention provides a system and a method to allow data captured in a source computer system to be replayed in the remote reference system so as to recreate a captured event or analyze performance.

  • Patent number: 6341355
Abstract: Upon receiving a normal select signal to switch from one clock to another the first clock continues as the output for a number of clock periods. The normal select signal is treated as a disconnect control signal only at the next positive edge of the first clock. The disconnect signal is delayed for a number of cycles and then applied to the control gate of the first clock only when a negative edge of the first clock is detected. Once the disconnect control signal has been issued and the first clock output is dead, the disconnect control signal starts the sequence for connecting the second clock to the output. The connect control signal is accepted at the next positive edge of the second clock, delaying the connect signal for a number of cycles and applying the connect signal to the control of the second clock only when a negative edge of the second clock is detected causing the second clock to disconnect from the output only at a negative edge.

  • Patent number: 6338204
Abstract: A tape measure comprising a housing having a rubber base and flexible tape coiled up inside, and a top section having a level. The flexible tape is marked with linear measurement scales on the top and bottom. A horizontal slit runs lengthwise along the flexible measuring tape. An inverted pull tab having a “C” shape attaches to the end of the flexible tape. Two vertical slits extend outward from the horizontal slit near the end of the flexible tape. The top section connects to the housing at a center joint, allowing the top section to lock into set angular positions. Alternative embodiments have a fixed top section with multiple levels and/or a rubber base comprising a rubber roller mechanism.

  • Patent number: 6327612
Abstract: A mailing apparatus is operated to associate an attachment file with TO addresses. Then, the mailing apparatus creates e-mail destined for the TO addresses each including the body text and the TO addresses, together with e-mail destined for the CC/BCC addresses including the body text and the CC/BCC addresses. Further, the mailing apparatus appends the attachment files to the e-mail destined for the TO addresses, whereas it does not append the attachment files to the e-mail destined for the CC/BCC addresses. Instead, it appends a message to the latter to indicate the attachment files have been attached to the e-mail destined for the TO addresses.

  • Patent number: 6305449
Abstract: The present invention facilitates the fabrication of an unlimited variety of dovetail joints without the use of standardized template devices. Additionally, the device is capable of supporting a workpiece on both sides of the router bit cutting edge and adjusting the angular orientation of the guiding fence in relation to the axis of directional translation. The device is comprised of a router table and a slideably coupled positioning apparatus. The router table comprises a tabletop and means for securing a router so that the router's cutting bit extends upwardly through a central orifice. The upper surface of the router table has two longitudinal guide grooves which are parallel to one another and equally spaced on opposite sides of the central orifice. The positioning apparatus is comprised of a guide fence unit with two pivotally secured parallel runners.

  • Patent number: 6266723
Abstract: A method for optimizing bus transactions in a data processing system is provided. A bus transaction optimizer receives an original bus transaction request which includes an original start address of a target memory for the original bus transaction, an original byte size for a number of bytes for the original bus transaction, and an original bus command for the original bus transaction. The bus transaction optimizer generates multiple bus transaction requests in response to a determination that the original byte size is greater than or equal to a predetermined multiple transfer byte size data value. The multiple bus transaction requests may include at least one high-performance bus transaction request and at least one low-performance bus transaction request.

  • Patent number: 6260093
Abstract: A method and apparatus in a data processing system for multiple bus arbitration, wherein the data processing system includes a first bus connected to a second bus by a bridge. In response to receiving a request for a target device from a master device connected to a first bus, a determination is made as to whether the target device is connected to the first bus. The bridge is selected in response to determining that the target device is located on the second bus. The bridge initiates a request for the second bus in response to the selection of the bridge. The first bus and the second bus are connected to each other by the bridge in response to the bridge receiving a grant to the second bus, wherein the master device transfers data between the master device and the target device across the bridge.

  • Patent number: 6174541
Abstract: A cell migration agent promotes the healing of wounds by promoting movement of fibroblast cells away from the periphery of the wound. The agents can include Indole-3-Acetic acid and its derivatives such as Indole-3-Acetyl-L-Phenylalanine. Significant increases in the migration of fibroblast cells were observed at five days after treatment initiation. When administered in a dosage of between 0.1 and 250 ppm, these compounds appear to have the ability to move healthy human fibroblast cells into areas void of cells more rapidly than if the agent were not present. This results in the plumping of the skin or healing of wounds. The compounds can be delivered by topical or internal methods of application.

  • Patent number: 6115698
Abstract: Electric energy can be traded between connected participants such as utility companies. The present method provides a common marketplace which provides participants the ability to display both buy and sell offers to the other participants. The marketplace also allows the participants to consummate a transaction for a quantity of electrical energy. The method further allows the participants to curtail transactions and the delivery of the electrical energy if necessary.

  • Patent number: 6074199
Abstract: The candle has a wick that contains a signal transmission means such as an optical guide or thermocouple. An electronic circuit is coupled to the transmission means so that when a light or heat signature is received by the circuit, it plays a sound stored in a memory. For example, an optical guide can be coupled to an optical switch, so that the optical signal produced by the flame will close the switch and complete a circuit. The circuit can include a storage device, such as an IC CHIP, to store a musical tune. This tune is then played when the candle is lit. When the flame is extinguished, the burnt wick along with the wavelength sensitive optical switches will prevent ambient light from activating the circuit. Likewise, if a thermocouple is used, the absence of a flame will discontiue the production of sound.

  • Patent number: 5943631
Abstract: Measuring the limpness of a note is necessary to separate a worn note out of circulation. Several methods are disclosed which can be used either alone or in combination to test for limpness. One method measures the note's ability to reflect light or transmit the light. Another method measures the response of the note to an acoustic wave. Another method measures the note's deflection to a pressure or force. Yet another method measures the dielectric value of the note when placed between the plates of a capacitor. A final method involves measuring the thermal conductivity of the note. In each case, a limp note will produce distinguishable results from a stiff note.
