  • Patent number: 4472283
Abstract: The disclosure teaches a method of retarding the loss of carbon dioxide from a circulating water system by means of quaternary ammonium compounds having at least one hydrocarbon radical containing twelve or more carbon atoms or at least two hydrocarbon radicals each containing seven or more carbon atoms. In the method an effective amount of a suitable quaternary ammonium compound is added to the water in the system, surprisingly slowing the rate of loss of carbon dioxide from the water. Carbon dioxide is added to the water as needed to maintain the desired pH. The method provides an advantageous alternative to using stronger and more hazardous acids in maintaining a lowered pH in circulating water systems, for example, in heat exchange systems that utilize cooling towers.

  • Patent number: 4457265
Abstract: A latching, releasing and locking stanchion apparatus for cows and the like includes reciprocating operating bars and latching/release mechanism operated by the bars wherein the latching/release mechanism is supported completely independently of the operating bars and independently of the stanchion members. Relatively thin section materials are bent into the shapes desired and welded together to form an upper support structure having rigidity and strength while retaining light weight. Fixed, release and bracing stanchions are provided and are, appropriately, welded to a lower support at their bottom and the upper support at their top. The support structure is channel shaped and holds within itself the latching and release mechanism while the operating bars are carried externally to the channel. Self-catch, single release, delayed release, group release, lock-in, lock-out and non-catch features are provided. Manual release mechanism permits the removal of a stanchion member in an emergency situation.

  • Patent number: 4454616
Abstract: To promote the collection and harvesting of propolis from a bee colony a fine mesh screen through which bees are unable to pass is located in a central ventilation passage of the colony by registering it with the scraper screen of an internal pollen trap. The bees deposit propolis on the screen which can be removed without dismantling the hive.

  • Patent number: 4447050
Abstract: A wood, or the like, kerf chuck of two substantially identical pieces are disposed parallel to each other for clamping a board between them. A vertical kerf member extends from one piece through a saw kerf and lies alongside a similar vertical member which extends from the other piece. A bolt and thumb screw attach the vertical members in order to maintain the established separation between base and clamp jaws.

  • Patent number: 4427235
Abstract: A method of solution mining wherein a lixiviant containing both leaching and oxidizing agents is injected into the subsurface orebody. The composition of the lixiviant is changed by reducing the level of oxidizing agent to zero so that soluble species continue to be removed from the subsurface environment. This reduces the uranium level of the ground water acquifier after termination of the lixiviant injection.

  • Patent number: 4424039
Abstract: A mathematics teaching device wherein a display surface is divided into eight regions. The first region contains one hundred colored and numbered plaques removably mounted in ten rows. Plaques are within five color groupings and the rows are color-coded as are receiving pockets. Two regions have another set of plaques with an adjacent receiving pocket to permit simple mathematical operations to be performed therein. The other regions are marked for additional operations to be performed therein.

  • Patent number: 4394935
Abstract: The connection between the actuating handle of a gasoline service station pump and the pump shaft is a lost motion connection wherein the pump may be actuated in the usual manner for turning the gasoline pump on but in returning the actuation handle to the vertical position, the connection between the handle and the pump shaft is floppy, i.e. a lost motion connection, so that the dial setting of the pump cannot be altered but the attendant can reset the indicating dials to zero and release the actuation lever for further operation by holding the actuating lever stationary, inserting a tool into the pump operating shaft and rotating the shaft and sleeve counter-clockwise a specified amount.
