  • Patent number: 7290086
Abstract: A method, apparatus and program storage device for providing asynchronous status messaging in a data storage system Asynchronous events are returned from a target to an initiator in response to a Read Message from the initiator. The return status message may or may not be associated with a previously given command or Logical Unit (LUN).

  • Patent number: 7171740
Abstract: A tape head module assembly method is disclosed. A first and second module holder are placed in an initial alignment with module holder ends facing each other, the module ends each holding a tape head module. A tape wrap angle between the first and second module is set by first performing a fringe alignment and then lifting a rear end of the first and second module holder a prescribed amount. A horizontal adjuster produces a rotation for the first module holder so that gaps between the first and second modules are parallel. An alignment along a longitudinal axis for the second module holder is selected and the second module is translated laterally until the second tape head module held by the second module holder is aligned with the first tape head module held by the first module holder to provide reader-opposite-writer track-to-track registration. Then, the first and second tape head modules are joined together using a joining agent in the gap between the first and second tape head modules.

  • Patent number: 7136400
Abstract: Protocol multiplexer is configured to receive multiple communication links, each link operating with one of a plurality of communication protocols. Protocol handler converts the received data and frames the data according to the communication protocol in use for a particular communication link. Port multiplexer separates the received frames into data frames and control frames. The data frames being multiplexed onto a single data bus and the control frames being multiplexed onto a single control bus to increase performance of the protocol multiplexer.

  • Patent number: 6954321
Abstract: Magneto-Resistive (MR) head read/write channel (400) provides timer (421), detector (433) and amplifier (432) to reduce the amount of time required to transition from read mode to write mode. Controller (410) issues the write command (WGATE) to signal a pending mode change from read to write mode. While read/write channel (400) remains in read mode, timer (421) begins a configurable countdown sequence, which allows Arm Electronics (430), except for a final output stage of amplifier (432), to power up in preparation for write mode. Once timer (421) has reached terminal count, signal (CHWGATE) is de-asserted, which causes write channel (422) to warm up. After warm up, write channel (422) writes serial data (WRITE DATA) to detector (433). Still in read mode, detector (433) detects the presence of WRITE DATA from write channel (422) and asserts signal (AEWGATE).

  • Patent number: 6493975
Abstract: A sign assembly having a frameless-appearing sign face may be removed from and replaced into the assembly. The sign assembly includes a sign face having an outer surface, an inner surface and a peripheral side. The assembly also includes a sign frame having a sign face channel that is adapted to receive a portion of the sign face adjacent to the peripheral side. The sign face channel is defined by an inner frame portion and an outer frame portion. The assembly also includes a mounting component having a face support that is attached to the inner surface of the sign face adjacent to the peripheral side of the sign face, an inner support that is adapted to bear against the inner frame portion of the sign frame, and an outer support that is adapted to bear against the outer frame portion of the sign frame. The invention also includes a method for mounting a sign face on a mounting component and a method for converting a framed assembly into a frameless-appearing assembly.
