    Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel cytochrome P450-like enzyme (Aspergillus ochraceus 11 alpha hydroxylase) and an oxidoreductase (Aspergillus ochraceus oxidoreductase) isolated from cDNA library generated from the mRNA of Aspergillus ochraceus spores. When the cDNA encoding the 11 alpha hydroxylase was co-expressed in Spodoptera frugiperda (Sf-9) insect cells with the cDNA encoding human oxidoreductase as an electron donor, it successfully catalyzed the conversion of the steroid substrate 4-androstene-3,17-dione (AD) to 11 alpha-hydroxy-AD as determined by HPLC analysis. The invention also relates to nucleic acid molecules associated with or derived from these cDNAs including complements, homologues and fragments thereof, and methods of using these nucleic acid molecules, to generate, for example, polypeptides and fragments thereof.     Abstract: The present invention is directed to a stable nitroglycerin containing pharmaceutical composition, preferably a tablet which is prepared by direct compression technology. The formulation closely replicates the properties of nitroglycerin molded sublingual tablets (e.g. adequate disintegration and sublingual absorption), while reducing the problems experienced with compressed tablets (e.g. friability and weight variations). The stable tablets are characterized by a decreased migration of nitroglycerin, decreased potency loss, excellent content uniformity when stored. The preferred combination of components are: nitroglycerin/lactose dilution, hydrous lactose, glyceril monostearate, fumed silica, pregelantinized starch and calcium stearate. The preferred process employs direct compression technology to yield composition showing adequate disintegration, bioavailability and improved stability.

    Abstract: An optically active 4-(4-substituted-2,6-dihydroxyphenyl)-6,6-dimethyl-2-norpinanone is reacted with a protonic acid to provide an optical isomer of a cis-1-hydroxy-3-substituted-6,6-dimethyl-6,6a,7,8,10,10a-hexahydro-9H-dibe nzo[b,d]pyran-9-one. Reaction of said norpinanone with a Lewis acid provides an optical isomer of trans-1-hydroxy-3-substituted-6,6-dimethyl-6,6a,7,8,10,10a-hexahydro-9H-di benzo[b,d]pyran-9-one. The optically active norpinanones are prepared by reaction of a 5-substituted-resorcinol with an optically active 6,6-dimethyl-2,4-diacetoxy-2-norpinene or an optically active 6,6-dimethyl-2,2-diacetoxy-3-norpinene, which compounds are derived from optically active .beta.-pinenes.
