  • Patent number: 4399952
Abstract: A thread delivery apparatus for textile machines comprises a pair of nested wheels inclined one relative to the other for accepting multiple turns of yarn. Instead of the axes of the wheels passing each other with a finite minimum spacing as with nested godet wheel frames, the axes (18, 19) are in a common plane and intersect at a point (20) outside the thread control zone in the plane of a centering disc (23.1) fast on one of the wheels. The drive is transmitted from one wheel to the other through the centering disc.

  • Patent number: 4367974
Abstract: A surface drainage system comprising base members (27) and cover members (32). The base members have a channel formed between opposite walls thereof, and are designed to be laid end-to-end with the channels in longitudinal alignment. The cover members are of inverted channel section and have opposite side walls with a channel defined therebetween. The cover members are laid above the base members and combine therewith to form an enclosed drainage channel. Each cover member has at least one opening (37) extending through a side wall thereof and communicating with the channel. The lowermost part of the opening intersects the outer surface of the respective wall at a location (36) that is no closer to the bottom than to the top of the cover member. A carriageway (35) can be laid with its surface no lower than the point (36), so that drainage is effected through the opening (37) while the base members (27) lie at a significant depth below the carriageway surface.

  • Patent number: 4361988
Abstract: The invention provides a method of apparatus for refinishing a vehicle brake disc. The brake disc is rotated while in place on the vehicle and is brought into contact with one or more abrading discs, which are rotated as well, thereby grinding the brake disc. The abrading discs are maintained in contact with the brake disc by being mounted on a holder which is secured into a portion of the vehicle which is fixed with respect to the brake disc. The preferred arrangement is to attach the holder to the brake caliper mounting associated with the brake disc to be ground. In a preferred embodiment two abrading discs are used, and they can be adjusted to be slightly out of parallel with one another, so as to grind the brake disc with more pressure in a desired region than in another region.

  • Patent number: 4359644
Abstract: An electrical information transmitting means for consumer load control comprises a transmitter which transmits a coded signal through the conductors of an alternating current electrical distribution network as a sequence of wave-form distortions to a receiver which decodes the signal. The receiver comprises two correlators connected in quadrature, and the transmitters and each correlator synthesize synchronous signals from the power frequency, all of which is locked thereto. The D.C. voltage outputs of the correlators are squared and summed so that the receiver is independent of phase angle.

  • Patent number: 4350291
Abstract: A metal plate stands on a cross tie above an opening in the tie and a rail clip has a substantially straight leg which is driven into the opening, bears upwardly and is at most 2 mm. below a flat bottom of the plate. Second and third parts of the clip bear downwardly on the upper face of the rail flange and the upper face of the plate, respectively. This assembly may be made from an existing assembly in which a spike had its head overlying the rail flange and holding the rail down, the making of the new assembly including the step of forming the opening in the tie without moving the plate.

  • Patent number: 4349151
Abstract: To hold a railway rail down on a support member, a device is employed having a first part driven into a vertical hole in the support member, a second part having a sideways projection, part of which lies vertically below a part of the support member, to one side of the bottom of the hole, and further parts forming an arch above the support member. A convex portion of the first part co-operates with the wall of the hole during the driving operation to form a pivot about which said device rocks to cause the above-mentioned part of the projection to come under the above-mentioned part of the support member. A portion of a clip is driven under the arch and presses upwardly on it, another portion of the clip bears downwardly on the flange of the rail and a third portion bears downwardly on a fixed surface which, as seen from the rail, is beyond said first portion.
