  • Patent number: 4853510
Abstract: This relates to an induction heating coil which is of a single turn construction and particularly configurated for inducing electrical energy into a metal foil barrier layer of a laminated container closure for effecting heat bonding of the closure to a container in a preselected seal pattern. The seal pattern contains either one corner or the closure is provided with a projecting pull tab wherein there is a greater heating requirement and thus a requirement for the induction of higher electrical energy into the closure. The need for the induction of a greater amount of heat into the closure at a corner or the location of a projecting pull tab is provided for by reducing the cross section of the heating coil at the location of the greater heat requirement. The reduction in cross section is primarily effected by forming a notch in the heating coil. If desired, a closer control of the heating effect of the coil may be obtained by positioning in the notch a ferrite insert.

  • Patent number: 4852710
Abstract: A clutch release bearing comprises a maneuvering member operated on by a control member, usually a clutch release yoke. A drive member in direct or indirect axial bearing engagement with the maneuvering member, when operated on by the latter, operates on the clutch release device of a clutch. An axially acting spring washer of the Belleville spring type urges the drive member against the maneuvering member and retains the drive membering relative to the maneuvering member in the axial direction. This spring washer is able to turn inside out selectively so as to assume one or other of two separate stable configurations. One of these is a concave configuration and the other is a convex configuration. One configuration is an inoperative configuration and the other is an operative one. One peripheral edge of the spring washer bears axially on the drive member when it is in the operative configuration. On its other peripheral edge is a set of lugs through which it bears on the maneuvering member.

  • Patent number: 4848481
Abstract: To avoid skidding of the driving wheels of a tractor (1) which runs on tires and which is fitted with hydraulic lifting devices (3, 4) on which are mounted working tools (35, 45) which are buried in the ground (in this case ploughs), the apparatus includes detector structure for determining the force for forward movement of the tractor, comparing that force to a reference value and producing pulses of less than one second, for alternately raising the two lifting devices (3, 4), the amplitude of the pulses being proportional to the excess of the forward movement force, up to a limit amplitude of centimeters approximately. The pulses are too short for the tools (35, 45) to lift with respect to the ground and the amplitude of the raising movement appears as squashing of the tires, which increases grip in order to overcome the excess of forward movement force.

  • Patent number: 4838214
Abstract: An internal combustion engine having a sleeve valve wherein the sleeve valve is the cylinder sleeve of a respective cylinder whereby a very simple reciprocation and oscillation of the sleeve valve may be effected by means of a rotary valve which controls the intake of a fuel-air mixture into the crankcase of the engine. By suppying the fuel-air mixture into the crankcase of the engine and providing each cylinder with transfer passages extending axially through the cylinder and radially adjacent cooling fins of such cylinders, it is possible to effect an isothermal compressing of a fuel-air mixture within the cylinder followed by that fuel mixture being adiabatically compressed by the movement of the respective piston towards the head. The use of a sleeve valve, particularly in association with rotary intake valves, provides for a very simple valving arrangement with a minimum of parts.
