  • Patent number: 4344907
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for ensuring uniform distribution of higher and lower viscosity or flow rate resins in a product produced by a coextrusion process. A flow restriction is provided in the flow path of the lower viscosity or flow rate resin to increase the pressure drop of this resin as it passes through a coextrusion die. The increased pressure drop introduced by the flow restriction causes the lower viscosity or flow rate resin to be more uniformly distributed in the extruded product. A specific die construction providing a uniform resin flow channel within the die is also described.

  • Patent number: 4341748
Abstract: As synthesized by previous methods, ZSM-5 or ZSM-11 zeolites are crystallized in the presence of substantial amounts of a nitrogen-containing compound. When synthesized in this way, they contain an organic ammonium cation as well as a metal cation such as sodium. To obtain a more active form, the sodium ion must be exchanged out. Such exchange, especially with ZSM-5 and ZSM-11, is difficult unless there is calcination of the zeolite to remove the obstructing organo compounds. By making these zeolites in the presence of (1) seeds of the desired zeolite, (2) mixtures of them with ammonium hydroxide and/or alcohol, (3) the alcohol per se or (4) mixtures of the alcohol with ammonium hydroxide, a product substantially deficient in organic ammonium cation is obtained. These products can be exchanged directly without any calcination.

  • Patent number: 4341069
Abstract: Fuel for satisfying low, normal and high electric power generation requirements is obtained from coal in the form of syngas and dimethyl ether fired in turbine-compressor arrangements driving electric generators, wherein the storable ether fuel is fired in turbine-generator arrangements to supplement that normally produced by firing and expanding syngas in appropriate turbine-generator arrangements. High pressure steam generated in the process is expanded in steam turbines to also generate power. Steam product of the combination operation is used in the coal gasification step to produce additional syngas.

  • Patent number: 4341323
Abstract: An improved bracket assembly for a floating roof tank comprises a primary seal element and an auxiliary seal element placed above the primary seal element. A spring-tensioned rolling element, such as a wheel, is placed above the auxiliary sealing element in spaced relationship thereto. The rolling element is inclined with respect to the vertical wall of the tank at an angle of 10 to 60 degrees, thereby assuring a continuous and constant contact of the rolling element and of the auxiliary sealing element with the inside wall of the tank and substantially preventing the escape of vapors from the tank.

  • Patent number: 4340492
Abstract: Process for the recovery of oil from a subterranean oil reservoir involving injection into the reservoir of a substantially oil-free aqueous liquid containing a surfactant having a nonionic polyalkylene oxide hydrophilic group and an anionic sulfonate hydrophilic group molecularly linked to a common lipophilic base. The invention is applicable to reservoirs in which the connate waters have relatively high concentrations of divalent ions and in situations in which the water available for injection purposes contains relatively high amounts of divalent ions. Specifically disclosed surfactants include aliphatic aryl polyalkoxyol sulfonates in which the polyalkoxyol group contains at least three alkylene oxide units and is derived from ethylene oxide or propylene oxide or mixtures thereof. The aliphatic groups may be substituted directly on the aryl nucleus or indirectly as through an intermediate succinimido group.
