Abstract: A process for obtaining decomposition products from a slurry of municipal waste by use of a geothermal reservoir. The process comprises placing the slurry of municipal waste into a geothermal reservoir; sealing the opening of the geothermal reservoir; and retorting the municipal waste slurry in the geothermal reservoir for a time sufficient to liberate methane, ammonia, urea, nitrites, nitrates, and phosphates from said slurry. Thereafter, the liberated products are removed from the geothermal reservoir and separated.

Abstract: This invention is directed to a method for scrubbing hazardous components from waste or flue gas in depleted or swept regions of a reservoir. In the practice of this invention, a waste gas is coinjected into a depleted or swept region along with an aqueous reactant. The swept or depleted regions serve as a reactor. The gas and an aqueous reactant in an amount sufficient to react with said gas is allowed to remain in the depleted or swept region for a time sufficient to react with said gas and remove harmful or hazardous components from the gas. Thus, harmful or hazardous components are scrubbed from the gas. When the scrubbed gas breaks through at another spaced apart site, a gas substantially devoid of harmful or hazardous components is produced to the surface.
Abstract: Reaction products of hydrocarbylcarboxylic anhydrides and aminoalkanols can provide effective antiwear, antirust, and corrosion-inhibiting properties in lubricant and fuel applications.

Abstract: A well completion process for improved cement placement in a horizontal wellbore where dual density cleaning fluids are circulated down the wellbore for conditioning and cleaning it. Afterwards, a production tube containing centralizers is positioned centrally within the wellbore. Next, "spacer fluids" of higher and lower densities are circulated within an annulus formed by the space between the tube and the wellbore so as to more substantially clean the annulus out. Subsequently, a cement having a density greater than the spacer fluid is pumped into the annulus. Thereafter, a light weight cement is pumped into the annulus thereby overriding the heavier cement and removing voids in the annulus resulting in more efficient cement placement.
Abstract: A process for making t-butylthiol by reacting hydrogen sulfide and an olefin having a carbon number of 3 to 15 in the presence of a HZSM-5, HZSM-12, or MCM-22 zeolite catalyst. The reaction takes place under autogenous pressure conditions and a temperature of about 70.degree. C. to about 160.degree. C.

Abstract: A cement for forming a gravel pack in a washed-out interval is provided where a borehole penetrates an unconsolidated or loosely consolidated oil or gas reservoir which is likely to introduce substantial amounts of sand into the borehole. After perforating the borehole's casing at a washed-out interval of the formation, sand is introduced into the interval. Afterwards, an aqueous silicate solution is injected into said interval. Next, a spacer volume of a water-immiscible hydrocarbonaceous liquid is introduced into the interval. Thereafter, a water-miscible organic solvent containing an alkylpolysilicate is injected into the interval. A permeability retaining silica cement is formed in the interval thereby making a gravel pack. Injection of the aqueous silicate and organic solvent containing an alkylpolysilicate is continued until the interval has been consolidated by the silica cement to an extent sufficient to exclude sand and formation fines.
