  • Patent number: 5496568
Abstract: The present invention provides an effective method for controlling foliage and root fungus infection in cultivated crops. A fungicide composition in the form of an aqueous formulation which is applied to pre-harvest crops contains ingredients such as propiconazole, sodium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate, sodium oleate, sodium caprylate and xanthan gum. The combination of sodium oleate, sodium caprylate and xanthan gum functions as an effective spreader-sticker medium for forming an adherent coating on plant foliage surfaces, and for saturating ground soil. The coating exhibits both immediate and long duration fungicidal activities.

  • Patent number: 5496572
Abstract: A ruminant feedstuff comprises, in admixture, one or more edible, water-insoluble calcium or magnesium fatty acid salts and animal or vegetable protein nutritional material, the protein material having been converted during formation of the fatty acid salt into a form which is substantially non-degradable in the rumen but which is digestible in the lower gut. This feedstuff may be obtained by forming a substantially homogeneous mixture of animal or vegetable protein nutritional material, one or more fatty acids, suitably in liquid form, and a calcium or magnesium compound capable of forming an edible water-insoluble salt with the fatty acid under the conditions employed, initiating reaction of the fatty acid(s) and calcium or magnesium compound, suitably by raising the temperature of the ingredients e.g. by injection of steam into the substantially homogeneous mixture formed, maintaining the mixture at elevated temperature, e.g. 110.degree. to 115.degree. C., and then cooling the product.

  • Patent number: 5496376
Abstract: A laundry detergent composition, wherein the solids content comprises an active surfactant, at least about 70 wt. % of a water soluble alkaline carbonate, e.g., sodium carbonate, and, a minor amount, for example, about 0.05 to 5 wt. % of a polymeric polycarboxylate, e.g., an acrylic acid polymer, based on the total weight of solids in the composition, the polymeric polycarboxylate being in a form such that its complete release into wash water is delayed to at least about 60 seconds after the complete dissolution of the alkaline carbonate. For example, the polymeric polycarboxylate may be present in slow dissolving granules which also contain a diluent salt such as sodium carbonate and a binder such as a low molecular weight polyethylene glycol. The delayed release of the polymeric polycarboxylate reduces fabric encrustation during washing, i.e., the precipitation of CaCO.sub.3 onto fabric surfaces due to the presence of soluble alkaline carbonate.

  • Patent number: 5482701
Abstract: This invention provides microporous alkali metal bicarbonate, which can contain an absorbed gaseous, liquid or solid phase as an encapsulated ingredient. A present invention microporous bicarbonate composition has utility as a lightweight deodorant ingredient in a cosmetic stick or roll-on product. This permits the solid organic matrix and dispersed deodorant particle phases to have densities which are sufficiently matched to prevent setting of the dispersed particles during manufacture, and to provide a cosmetic stick or roll-on product with dimensional stability.

  • Patent number: 5482720
Abstract: This invention provides an encapsulated co-micronized bicarbonate salt powder composition which is a blend of crystalline ingredients having a particle size between about 0.1-30 microns. The composition is produced by mill co-micronization of a crystalline bicarbonate ingredient and a crystalline inorganic compound ingredient having a Mohs hardness value between about 3-7, and then surface coating the particles with a polymer. A blend of crystalline particles such as sodium bicarbonate and zinc oxide is free-flowing and essentially free of agglomerated solids after co-micronization, and the discrete crystalline particles are coated with a polymer to form a present invention encapsulated co-micronized bicarbonate salt powder composition.

  • Patent number: 5468716
Abstract: The present invention provides a fungicide composition which contains ingredients which are biocompatible for purposes of agricultural applications, and which are harmless to animals and humans. An invention fungicide composition in the form of a dry blend formulation remains non-caking and free-flowing under storage conditions. Illustrative of an invention fungicide composition is a formulation which has a content of sodium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate, xanthan gum, dialkylsulfosuccinate salt and alkyl sulfate salt surfactants, and magnesium silicate anti-caking ingredient. The xanthan gum and surfactants function as an effective spreader-sticker and film-forming medium when the composition is diluted with water for agricultural applications.

  • Patent number: 5464457
Abstract: This invention provides a process for fumigating a plot of ground soil which involves dispersing a particulate ammonium carboxylate such as ammonium bicarbonate on or below the ground surface, followed by covering of the treated ground area with a tarpaulin to seal the ground surface from contact with the atmosphere. The tarpaulin covering is maintained on the ground surface for a sufficient time period to allow decomposition of the ammonium bicarbonate into a mixture of ammonia and carbon dioxide gases, and to effect fumigation of the covered plot with the generated gas mixture.
