Abstract: A specially-shaped wick holder 12, in conjunction with an irregularly-shaped hole 14 in a reservoir 10 provides cooling and liquid-flow properties not obtainable with previous liquid-fuel candles. A fuel replenishment process further enhances the oil-free external environment.
Abstract: A safety system for a wood chipper having an elongated delivery chute into which a person would load tree branches, limbs and tree trunks. A metal sensor is mounted in the chute intermediate its front and rear ends and is oriented to detect any metal passing through the passageway of the chute. A gate is mounted inside the chute and it is normally in an open position. The gate is located at a position between the metal sensor and the rear of the chute. When the metal sensor detects metal passing by it sends a signal to a hydraulic cylinder that rapidly closes the gate to block the passage way of the chute. The system requires that the person loading the material into the chute wear a pair of metal impregnated gloves. Some wood chippers have rollers mounted adjacent the rear end of the chute for pulling the tree branches, limbs and tree trunks into the inlet port of the housing containing rotating cutting blades.
Abstract: An illuminated bicycle having a body frame, a handlebar and wheels formed of hollow tubular members made of plastic material that allows light to be transmitted radially through their side walls. A high intensity lamp is mounted at a predetermined location within one of the hollow tubular members. A bundle of flexible elongated optical fibers have their one end positioned adjacent the high intensity lamp so that light therefrom would be transmitted through the optical fibers. The optical fibers are threaded throughout the hollow tubular members of the bicycle body frame so that when the lamp is illuminated the hollow tubular members will glow and make them highly visible at night. The lamp may be powered by batteries or a small bicycle generator.
Abstract: A resonance frequency stimulator for increasing blood circulation by having a four-legged animal or person standing upon a top plate through which vibrations are transmitted. The top plate is oriented substantially in a horizontal plane and it rests resiliently on a plurality of coiled compression springs at a predetermined height above a bottom plate. Fastening structure passes through the coiled compression springs to secure the top plate to the bottom plate. A rotary vibrator with motor is mounted on the top plate adjacent the front end of the top plate for producing a resonance frequency vibration in the top plate. A frame assembly surrounds the front end, the rear end and the lateral sides of the bottom plate. A handrail assembly extends upwardly a predetermined height from the frame assembly along both lateral sides thereof and also transversely thereto at a position rearwardly of the motor.
Abstract: Apparatus for interconverting reciprocating and rotative motion is comprised of a cylindrical rotative slant having a continuous groove in a flat inclined surface and another continuous groove in the cylindrical sidewall adjacent said inclined surface. Balls are caused to engage said grooves, said balls being held stationary by retaining means adapted to undergo reciprocal linear motion within a track means. An axle is centered in a flat surface perpendicular to the axis of said rotative slant.
Abstract: A turret belt grinder having multiple contact wheels of different diameters mounted on tooling support members that are adjustably attached to a turret frame. The turret assembly is rotatably supported on flanged bushings bearing on a ring plate to revolve 360 degrees about, and concentric to, the axis of the motor drive shaft. A closed loop belt is transported in a fixed geometric pattern on the radial surface of the contact wheels. Each of the contact wheels may be rotated to a common work station to produce infinite belt angles and chages in wheel diameters. A friction rotor lock functions to fix the turret position to accommodate a variety of abrasive machining applications. The abrasive belt is driven by a V-belt which transmits power from the motor shaft to a contact drive wheel. Wheel mount member assemblies provide adjustment of the V-belt tension, abrasive belt tension and belt tracking camber. A leverage spring release mechanism permits rapid abrasive belt changes and maintains belt tautness.
Abstract: An improved windshield for a transit vehicle. The windshield comprises a pair of windshield sections horizontally separated by a vertical divider. Each of the windshield sections are positioned at different angles from a common vertical axis whereby at night the interior lighting of the vehicle is reflected rearwardly from the interior surface of the windshield section in a manner which prevents interference with the forward vision of the operator through the windshield sections.
Abstract: A folding seat and wheelchair restraint assembly having a vehicle passenger seat and a barrier assembly. The vehicle passenger seat has a seat back portion and a seat bottom portion that is pivotally attached to the seat back portion whereby the seat bottom portion, which is normally horizontally oriented, may be pivoted to a vertical orientation. A restraint arm assembly is pivotally secured to the underside of the seat bottom portion in such a manner that it may be pivoted in a substantially horizontal plane when the seat bottom portion is folded upwardly in its vertical orientation. The barrier assembly has a complete seat belt unit with a retractable seat belt member and a non-retractable seat belt member attached to the barrier assembly. The retractable seat belt member is mounted on said barrier within a casing that is positioned on the barrier wherein it may also function as a support surface for the seat bottom portion of the folding seat when it is in a substantially horizontal position.
