Abstract: A load hoisting system for raising and lowering a load. A first line supports a rigid beam with unequal mechanical advantages on either side of the load. A second line supports the same rigid beam with mechanical advantages on either side of the load that are, in total, equal to those on the first line but with a ratio of mechanical advantages unequal to the ratio of mechanical advantages of the first line. One end of each line is fastened to a fixed support and the other ends of the two lines are drawn at the same rate by a power source, which system eliminates all axial rotation of the beam. The system may be applied to both ends of a long load by drawing of all lines in synchronism, advantageously being applied to lift both ends of a boat.
Abstract: A ferrule connectable to a fiber optic cable having an exposed portion of a length of optical fiber extending from a protective buffer. The ferrule includes a cylindrical body including an optical fiber bore coaxial with the body which extends longitudinally from a proximal end of the body through a distal end portion thereof sized to slidably receive the optical fiber therethrough. The distal end portion is mechanically deformable to frictionally engage the optical fiber within the bore, the distal end being either conically shaped or including an outwardly extending ring resulting in the distal end being a substantially planar surface, whereby a projecting length of the optical fiber extending beyond the distal end may be cleaved in very close proximity to the distal end.
Abstract: Coating composition, articles, and methods for applying reactive silanol coating compositions having electron deficient surfaces formed as the coating composition cures wherein organic radical groups from the silanes are forced to the surface of the coating. The silicon atoms in the interpenetrating silicon-oxygen structure below retain electrons skewing the electron cloud downward creating an electron deficient or net positively charged surface. The resultant surface exhibits self-sterilization without toxic biocide additives due to the electron deficient surface. The surface is also extremely tight and thereby absent nutrients for microorganisms, discouraging organic growth such as mold. This unique positively charged surface further exhibits both hydrophobic and oleophobic qualities providing ease of cleaning for maintenance, particularly for hospital beds, equipment, floors, walls, curtains, bathrooms, or all the surfaces inside and outside of an ambulance and the equipment contained therein.
Abstract: A weighted training bat formed of wood and having a handle and a barrel. The barrel has an elongated hollow cavity formed into a distal end thereof and an outer cavity portion having internal threads. Lead which has been poured or cast-in-place into and filling the proximal portion of the cavity, when solidified, adheres to the interior surface of the cavity to resist loosening, the lead adding weight at and evenly astride the sweet spot of the bat. An elongated wooden screw having external threads is tightly engaged into internal threads in the cavity so the screw bears against the lead to further prevent loosening of the lead. The threads are permanently glued and an outer end of the screw is formed to blend with the contour of the end of the barrel.
Abstract: An engine oil filter assembly and method for removing solid and liquid contaminants from engine oil. After solid contaminants are removed by passing the oil under engine pressure upwardly through a fibrous filter element within a lower portion of a canister, the oil is then forced through a separator after which the filtered oil under pressure decompresses. A lid having a downwardly sloping central portion is closely spaced above a similar sloping central portion of the separator to define a heating channel therebetween. A heating element in fluid isolation from the heating channel radiates heat through the central lid portion to vaporize liquid contaminants still in the oil, the vaporized contaminants discharging through a vapor vent in the lid, the decontaminated oil passing by gravity through the heating channel into a drain insert and back into the engine via an oil return port.
Abstract: An interactive visitor announcement/access control system for residents of limited access and gated communities. The system includes a computer database and a community staff-operated personal computer (p.c.) located at each visitor access point to the community, the staff p.c. being connected to the database by direct link and/or via the Internet. Each resident having a personal computer is provided with limited Internet access to the database to enter scheduling information and a description of each expected visitor, including the visit date and time, the name of each visitor, and a printed bar-coded pass authorization and mode of delivery thereof for each visitor.
Abstract: A vessel harvesting apparatus including a shaft and a tip formed as a unit with, and positioned at a distal end of, the shaft. A handle is connected to a proximal end of the shaft for allowing an operator to feed and manipulate the tip. The tip defines a vessel receiving aperture extending longitudinally through the tip and being laterally offset from and generally parallel to a longitudinal axis of the shaft. The tip has a smooth, contoured outer surface narrowing toward the distal end thereof wherein the tip may be passed along and surrounding a vessel without substantial disruption of surrounding tissue. Transacting and ligating of the vessel positioned in the aperture and side branch vessels against the outer surface of the tip by dissection and/or cauterization is provided. The tip releases the vessel from surrounding tissue while being moved there along wherein the transfected portion of the vessel is more easily removed from surrounding tissue.
Abstract: A self-assisted shoulder passive range of motion (SA-PROM) apparatus. The apparatus includes a forearm support adapted to receive the forearm of the affected arm, a double pulley assembly, a single pulley connectable to an elevated support such as an upper door edge, and a main support rope, one end of which is attached to the double pulley, the other end having an enlarged handle. A central portion of the main support rope is engagable over the single pulley. A secondary rope arrangement which is preferably formed of a single length of rope, is attached to each of a plurality of holes formed through said forearm support in proximity to each end and each side margin of the forearm support and arranged over the secondary pulleys to self-regulate pitch and roll movement of the forearm support. The affected arm may be passively raised and lowered through a range of motion by pulling on the handle with the unaffected arm.
Abstract: A mattress pad positionable atop a rectangular mattress which better accommodates diverse weights and sizes of the human anatomy for enhanced comfort. The mattress pad includes a flexible bottom sheet having a size and shape substantially similar to that of a top surface of the mattress. A flexible fabric top sheet is connected to the bottom sheet by peripheral stitching along common perimeter side, head and foot margins. A plurality of generally side-by-side body supporting chambers are each defined by peripheral stitching and spaced lines of continuous stitching which interconnect the top and bottom sheets. Each chamber is filled with an open or closed cell urethane foam material. Preselected nominal thicknesses of each of the chambers provides the comfort and accommodation to each portion of the human anatomy.
Abstract: A removable shelf for attachment to a scaffold including a generally L-shaped frame releasably connectable around one of the vertically spaced horizontal crossbars of the scaffold. An object support panel is connected to one or both of the legs to support objects thereatop. Each leg is of sufficient length to extend between two vertically adjacent crossbars so that a distal portion of one leg contacts a lower one of the two crossbars to maintain the substantially horizontal orientation of the other leg and corresponding support panel when weighty objects are placed thereatop.
Abstract: An elongated rivet bag holding a quantity of blind rivets ready for use in an automatic rivet setting tool. The rivets are connected along an elongated flexible rivet carrying strip by having a distal portion of each mandrel inserted or pierced through the carrying strip and positioned and stored in a random orientation within the rivet bag which is openable at an upper end thereof to render the rivets and strip ready for use. A blind rivet feed device for feeding the rivet-loaded strip into the nose of the automatic rivet setting tool is also provided along with a rivet strip collection bag for the empty strip.
Abstract: A wrist worn lap counter and method of use for a swimmer including an electronic lap counter/timer module and a wrist strap connected to the module for attachment around the wrist of the swimmer. The module includes a water resistant housing having a viewable front face and a transparent lens covering a digital display, the digital display being operable to simultaneously display a lap set number, lap indicating number, and a current set elapsed time number. First and second input buttons are positioned on the housing, the first input button being operable to incrementally increase the lap set number and to zero and restart the elapsed time number, the second input button being operable to increment or reset to zero the lap indicating number. Pressing either button will activate the module while deactivation preferably requires pressing and holding both buttons.

Abstract: Method and apparatus are provided for therapeutic administration to body parts digitally generated electromagnetic fields with trapezoidal, square, triangular and sawtoothed and other complex temporal field waveforms that are microcontroller controlled for a range of amplitude, frequency, and dc offsets; the apparatus providing programmed sequences of radiation waveforms. Multiple electromagnetic antennas establish a variety of field configurations for exposure of various body parts in the treatment of a wide range of afflictions including exfoliation of calcium deposits causing improvements in arthritis and other rheumatic diseases—osteoarthritis, nervous interconnection (neuropathies), etc., the treatment of tremors and seizures, migraine, hypertension, lower back pain, urinary incontinence, and premenstrual tension. Temperature sensors within the antennas are provided to limit the temperatures therein.

Abstract: A clip and hose clamp for holding the slotted distal portion of the clamp band against the clamp band to prevent harmful contact with the distal end of the clamp band. The clip includes a main panel having side panels orthogonally extending from side margins of the main panel. The side panels are spaced apart a distance equal to a width of the clamp band to receive the clamp band and prevent relative rotational movement therebetween. A locking tab extends inwardly from opposite corners of each of the side panels and spaced parallel to the main panel, the gap therebetween being slightly greater than twice the thickness of the clamp band. The locking tabs are further configured for the clip to be twist locked onto the clamp band and to receive and hold the end portion against the clamp band.
Abstract: A toy construction set including a plurality of elongated tubular elements each including first and second ends having identical outside diameters. A plurality of differently configured connectors each include a plurality of connecting legs having ends with identical inside diameters sized to closely mate and providing releasable engagement with the tubular elements. The connectors are individually configured to have preferably up to eight (8) connecting legs variously oriented one to another and radially extending from a focal point wherein the toy construction set is used to assemble a three-dimensional structure including a plurality of tubular elements releasably connected to a plurality of connectors.
